PS: Mom, finally, the recognition I deserved.

« We are blessed with technology that would be indescribable to our forefathers. We have the wherewithal, the know-it-all, to feed everybody, clothe everybody, and give every human on Earth a chance. We know now what we could never have known before-that we now have the option for all humanity to make it successfully on this planet in this lifetime. Whether it is to be Utopia or Oblivion will be a touch-and-go relay race right up to the final moment. » taken in Paris, France by @djoann.mp4

I was honored to speak alongside Dominic Mellorm director of the Asian Development Bank and Jen Zhu Scott, a renowned VC, about the future of AI at the stage of The Economist in Hong Kong.

Here are 7 insights to remember:

-While representing only 2% of the planet’s surface, cities emit 60% of GHG emissions

-2 billion individuals are projected to inhabit megacities in the developing world by 2100, mainly in Asia and Africa.

-The World Health Organization predicts +8 degrees (up to 50 degrees in some cities) temperatures due to climate change in the top 20 cities. That’s lethal heat without efficient air conditioning systems.

-The total value of global real estate is $21 trillion. It faces big write-downs due to climate risks.

-In Europe, 90% of the buildings that will exist in 2050 are already standing today. To reach a net-zero built environment by 2050, we’ll need to invest $83 trillion to retrofit buildings.

-In 2023, 70% of investments in the built environment went to climate tech. This was a big jump from 20% fifty years ago.

-Michio Kaku believes that AI and quantum computing will soon enable us to reach the Solar Age, an age where humans will be able to harness the power of the sun and stop their city’s dependence on fossil fuels.

If we want to fix our relationship with the planet we need to fix our cities
How our cities’ energy, food, and water are produced, consumed, and RECYCLED.

I believe this Solar Age is right around the corner: using climate tech and AI, the future of our cities lies in fostering funding for solutions retrofitting our homes

The challenge of our generation is to reinvent our cities to be greener and more resilient to climate-induced extreme weather.

Today, Atlas Climate Tech Coalition is launching - the Adaptive Cities Innovators Awards, gathering 100 innovators reinventing the future of our climate-resilient cities. Join with the link in the comments.

Djoann’s dad, Mr. Matthew Fal, passed away recently. It was devastating. For about a year, we were so excited about the idea of all our families from 3 continents finally meeting each other at our wedding.

Sadly, my family never got to meet the legend and we moved our wedding to next year instead. But that’s how life is. You can never predict when it will be the last time you wave goodbye and watch someone slowly fade away through the car’s rear window.

In his last few months, Matthew wrote some Senegalese folklore stories, and I was going to illustrate while Djoann colored the paintings for the book. It was just a fun little family project, but now we’re so thankful to have a piece of his writing to pass down and hold on to.

In the short time I got to spend with Matthew ( with my limited French 🤣), he was so charming and made me laugh so much. He loved music, collected art, and was always so fashionable. The whole town literally came out to say goodbye, which didn’t surprise me at all because he touched so many lives. (For anyone who knows us personally, he had the same warm, super-people-person vibe as Djoann, but on steroidsss🤣🤣)

In this sad time, I’m glad we have so many good stories and memories to cherish. If there’s anything to learn from this, it’s that death comes to us all, but how you live is what truly matters.

RIP Papa Matthew, we will miss you very muchšŸ¤šŸ¤ by @djoann.mp4

A breath of the wild.
When I was a boy, I watched Hayao Miyazaki’s films every summer. Princess Mononoke. Nausicaä. Castle in the Sky… It was resonating, inspiring, cleansing… I did not know it then, but he was teaching me something.

ā€œThat nature is generous and ferocious at the same time.ā€ Miyazaki said. That ā€œIt will heal the world, but it will not wait for us, and it will not heal us.ā€ He said in another interview…

He said once that he draws because he feels hopeless. -Maybe one of the reasons why he smoked cigarettes so much.-In The boy and the Heron, He said that he cannot save the world himself, but he hopes someone who watches his work will grow up and be the person who can.

Hayao Myazaki was probably the world’s first Doomer. by @djoann.mp4

We live in a world where compute had replaced prayers. Since the space X IPO, there’s never been a time where a small equity position in a tech company can retire your entire family. We are entrering a K-shaped economy, where those able to participate to the rise of these new trillion dollar monopolies will make generational wealth. And those who aren’t will completely miss the boat. Be part of those who bought an entry ticket. So, let’s leave the AI smart city jail and live in the forest... for a while. by @djoann.mp4

To understand techno-feudalism, the first thing is to understand feudalism itself. Feudalism would really just be a system, the same as capitalism or communism. Now, it’s worth noting that some of these systems, in particular feudalism and communism, but to be honest, arguably all of them, also come with prescriptions for societal hierarchies and political management, on top of just their ideas about how to run an economy. Here, of course, we will be focusing on the economics, but that is too important to be remarked. So economically, these systems are all just procedures for answering the central economic questions: What should be produced? How much should be produced? How can we produce it, and who should it be produced for? Socialism would say from each according to their ability, to each according to their need. Capitalism would answer: we should produce what the market demands and the quantity that demands it in the most competitive way possible for the people who have the willingness and ability to demand those goods in that market. Feudalism is a little bit different again. Feudalism was the dominant system at a time where economics was almost entirely dominated by the productivity of land. The more land an empire had, the more people it could feed, the bigger armies it could raise, and the more land it could conquer. by @djoann.mp4

The hottest summer, part 2. Teaser of our next video & newsletter coming soon.
-In 2025 global glaciers lost an estimated 408 gigatonnes of ice.
-By early May 2026, 163 million hectares had already burned worldwide, 50% above the seasonal average and the highest on record for the period.
-In 2026 so far, AI infrastructure investments have totalled roughly $1.3 trillion, while climate adaptation and resilience finance has totalled around $26 billion, even as an estimated 4,500-plus people have died from climate-induced extreme weather and over 3 billion animals (WWF estimates) have been killed or displaced by climate-driven fires and floods across 2025-2026. by @djoann.mp4
