Some dreams come true in the dark of night. Since 2012 I have been obsessed with @nicolasjaar's artistry and musicianship. Ever since Psychic by his duet DARKSIDE (with @dharringtone) dropped in 2013 I have been wanting to see this act live. Last year they did a brief run at the @lodgeroom, which I couldn't attend. This time, I could be there for a glorious live reimagined performance of the whole album, with drummer @tlacael. Impeccable sound, impeccable lighting, impeccable music. One show for the ages, in which I learned that Nico also shreds the bass clarinet 🤯. They're still in town until Saturday if you feel like experiencing this sonic sorcery live. by @djopen_decks

We are water-based life forms. Oceans lie within our cells, keeping salty memories of Life’s origins. Rivers of energy run through us in great meridians. Can we sit still enough to calm the undercurrents, focus the flow, and ascend skyward? Can we move true enough to our inner guidance to find a state of flow? Through all the rhythms, we find our inner wellspring, hard-earned wisdom streaming through us.

Mystic Moves came together beautifully on Friday on a very solar theme. This is the gorgeous altar made by @awenaart! Receiving her help and that of our friend Diane allowed me to focus only on the music, and I was happy with the tunes! The mix is here: https://www.mixcloud.com/opendecks/mystic-moves-081426-eclipse/. One my favorite moments was moving with everyone on Desert Sun, a very trancey jazz improvisation by the Keith Jarrett Trio from 1994. I've always find it immensely groovy, and I was wondering how long dancers would keep indulging my penchant for jazz. Turns out, quite a long time! I love making people dance to music not conventionally thought of as dance music. Real dancers dance to the music of Life, which is everywhere. by @djopen_decks

Friday Night: Mystic Moves
an expressive movement experience a sacred dance
August 14 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

In the fullness of summer, the focal point of our lives is the Sun: a star both life-giving and deadly, loving and ruthless, luminous and threatening. In this season I honor the bounty of summer fruit, long days and warm ocean waves, while trying not to burn to a crisp when walking outside at high noon. The Aug 12 solar eclipse brings these contrasts into sharp relief: how are we expressing our inner fire, dimming our light, and swimming through shadows? Together we will dance it all, with music from sunny places: tribal techno, Brazilian beats, Gnawa twerk, Bhangra bangers, Sufi serenades, and solar flares.

@highvibefest was such a hoot! I was so engrossed in the collective experience that I hardly found the time to capture anything on screen. Highlights: EPIC camping location, fresh air, bird songs, lovely humans, incredible dancefloor coherence, Sunday asana with a side of @michael_hathaway_kirtan and of course, some yummy food, because that's how I roll. The size was perfect too; I don't think I ever want to do another festival larger than this. Special thanks to @hoperosemary @secretsofstrength @jenny.jeong.42 @emanuele.rusina and @farahzia__ for giving me a home away from home. by @djopen_decks

What an honor it was to officiate some of the music at @erin_rose_ward and @andrew.griffes' wedding, in the epic natural setting of Sky Oaks Ranch, near Lake Piru in California, alongside very talented artists. My main task was to get the crowd dancing after dinner and speeches. I spent weeks digging in my digital crates, finding tunes old and new for this union of dancing souls so attuned to music from different traditions and tempos, from Amazon ceremony music to Berlin techno. My intention was to open sonic portals to let all generations, cultures and body types into the dance, starting soulful, groovy and cheeky and moving into deep, sexy and cosmic. I was so immersed in my set that I forgot to record it, but the dancefloor feedback was an unmistakable swirl of moves and smiles for two blissful hours, and I heard great things in return. The first video is a snippet from my welcome set on Friday afternoon. Watch this space for footage of the Saturday dance! There are very, very few people on this 🌍 whose music taste I respect more than Erin's, so it was truly one of the greatest honors of my life to give back to this amazing teacher and friend, and to her wise and inspiring hubby to be, Andrew. I wish you both a lifetime of "La Vie en Rose" 🌹. This is an open invitation to call on me if you need a musical prayer , electronic or acoustic, fast or slow, soulful always 🔊🎶🎼 💗✨ #musicprayer #wedding #djlife #california by @djopen_decks

Tending the Inner Garden

Come gather
Come dance
Swirling as celestial bodies
Planets of our own
Sovereign, supreme and interdependent
Till your Earth ‘till you feel its embrace
Water the soil, water your soul
Move like branches in the wind
Unearth all the hidden parts ready to bask in the Sun
Trim old branches, nurture new sprouts
Honor your cycles, deepen your breath
Set the psyche in motion
One dance at a time

@troubadourfest was a gem! A family friendly festival so small you get to know nearly everyone, packed with the most incredible musicians playing jazz, world music, and music beyond description. I was lucky enough to play a set there, weaving some of my favorite beats from around the world: Mali, the Balkans, Brazil, Gypsy Jazz, electro swing and whatever struck my fancy. These are some of the many sounds you'll hear come through my open decks. by @djopen_decks

This is my happy place: playing beautiful music for beautiful humans in a beautiful setting. And I get to live here, too! How about we create more spaces like this in the urban jungles of North America? #villagegreen #tribaltech #qscaudio by @djopen_decks
