Five of the world’s greatest architects.

One island in Abu Dhabi.

Every one of them borrowed from the same people.

Watch to the end to see which building sits on the spot where Sheikh Zayed’s greenhouse once grew vegetables in the desert.

Long before Dubai became known as a global hub for creativity and culture, architect Dariush Zandi saw something the city was missing: a place where creative minds could come together, exchange ideas and inspire one another.

What he was given wasn’t an ideal site. It was a flooded plot of land that many would have dismissed. Rather than seeing an obstacle, Zandi saw potential. Over the next several years, he transformed the space using reclaimed materials from across Dubai, preserving fragments of the city’s architectural heritage while creating something entirely new.

When it opened in 1998, it became far more than a building. It represented a new way of thinking about the city—one that valued culture, craftsmanship and community alongside growth and development. Its inauguration by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reflected the significance of the vision behind the project.

Dariush Zandi’s story is a reminder that some of the most meaningful contributions don’t begin with perfect circumstances. They begin with imagination, persistence and the courage to build where others see limitations.

In the UAE, some of the greatest legacies have been created not from what people were given, but from what they chose to make of it.

Had you heard of Dariush Zandi’s story before? Let us know in the comments.

In 2017, Dubai’s Crown Prince looked at his own city and issued a challenge: 30 minutes of exercise, every day, for 30 days straight. He called it 30x30 and instead of announcing it from behind a desk, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum kicked it off himself, cycling down the road on Day 1.

What started as one royal challenge has become one of the biggest fitness movements on Earth. The entire city transforms for a month — free fitness villages pop up at Zabeel Park, Kite Beach, Al Warqa’a Park and beyond, offering everything from yoga to cycling to mass workouts, completely free. In 2023 alone, more than 2.4 million people took part. His own words on launching it: “Let’s make the UAE the most active country in the world.”

That’s the UAE, in one story — a Crown Prince who didn’t just fund a fitness campaign, he laced up and did Day 1 himself. 🏃🇦🇪

Ready to fall down the vintage watch rabbit hole? 🕳️🐇

Buying a vintage timepiece isn't quite like walking into a boutique and pointing at a shiny new model. It takes patience, research, and a trained eye. You aren’t just buying a tool that tells time—you’re adopting a piece of history that has lived a whole life before it reached your wrist.

Whether you are hunting for a birth-year Rolex, a classic 1970s Omega, or a quirky Cartier, swiping through this carousel will give you the expert foundation you need to avoid getting burned. 🔥

The three biggest takeaways?
1️⃣ Embrace the patina (stop looking for polished perfection!).
2️⃣ Buy from a reputable, vetted seller.
3️⃣ Wear it because you love it, not just as an investment.

"These are beautiful objects; wearable pieces of art. You should enjoy them and not get so bogged down in the details, because it does a disservice to the actual joy of collecting."

Which vintage watch is currently at the top of your grail list? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Spring Summer 2027 show. In the world of Maison Margiela, lining transcends its traditional role to become a forefront element in design, shedding light on the artistry of internal construction. This collection strikes a balance between hard and soft elements, utilizing lining both as standalone garments and intricately woven into various pieces. Noteworthy is the floral-print dress, ingeniously concert to reveal its structure like a canvas, integrated seamlessly into a coat’s lining, offering reinforcement and new perspective. The introduction of the 5AC Soft further symbolizes this concept, presenting the appearance of pulled-out lining in the most supple leather, redefining luxury and innovation. by @djournal_magazine

The most talked-about lap in modern Formula One happened on land that was barren desert fifteen years earlier. 🏁

It started with a dinner in Abu Dhabi in 2006. The first idea was a tight street circuit, in the spirit of Monaco or Singapore. Then the design was rewritten: a purpose-built track, and a hotel that wasn’t in the original drawings. The track runs straight through it.

At the peak of the build there were more than 40,000 workers on site, 68 contractors, and a 15-metre hill raised on land that had been flat. Final FIA approval came on 7 October 2009, just 25 days before the first race.

On 1 November 2009 the race started at 5pm in daylight and finished under floodlights. Hamilton led from pole until his brakes failed, and Sebastian Vettel won. It was also the last race with refuelling, and the last for BMW, Toyota and Brawn GP. The first race here closed an era.

Since then, the circuit has decided championships: Vettel in 2010, Verstappen in 2021 after he and Hamilton entered level on points, and Norris in 2025 by two points. The season finale returns on 3–6 December.

That’s the UAE, in one story: from desert, to dinner, to the lap the world remembers. 🇦🇪

Where were you for the 2021 finale? Let us know in the comments below.
