Last week I had the privilege of meeting my ultimate artiste & all around icon, @madhuridixitnene (AGAIN)! I was showing her the pictures of us from almost 30 years ago and got the brief opportunity to tell her how much she meant to me but definitely was just as star struck as I was last time (swipe to the end for the reveal). Madhuri is the person who not only fueled but also encouraged me to pursue my creative endeavors in dance and music. I’m so incredibly lucky I got to see her in my home state and in her hometown!

After “Bollywood Disco” on the Boat we brought it to The Top of the Standard (fka The Boom Boom Room) for a fabulous afterparty where we all let our hair down… 🤩

Shubh Deepavali & Sal Mubarak! 🪔

This year’s Diwali celebrations were truly special: I danced with friends, loved ones, and the community at large with abandon. After years of uncertainty, the unbridled joy unleashed at these celebrations was particularly electric.

Diwali has always been my favorite time of the year; it’s where I discovered my love of dancing and fueled my creative spirit. Whether it was performing (and choreographing) countless Diwali shows or simply tearing up the dance floor it was always so special and meaningful (check my highlights for videos).

I’m grateful I spent downtime with family as well, and am looking forward to one final bash, next weekend back in my hometown of Stroudsburg, PA.

August was a little quieter.

Mostly family time, celebrating Mom and Dad’s birthdays, remembering Ren Xtravaganza, hanging with the dog, kismat connections with friends, and generally staying closer to home.

I did sneak away to P-Town to play with Trixie Mattel, practiced yoga 100 stories high above Manhattan, and squeezed in a little culture with @titaniquemusical for the third time. It's still a hoot! by @djrubot

July, apparently was committed to range.

Ferries. Fire Island. Family. Madonna. Broadway. A beautiful wedding. A 40th birthday. Matching kurtas. Pool days. Chosen family. Biological family. A suspicious number of sunglasses. One very lovable husband (for me, at least!).

The older I get, the more I realize the best months aren’t the busiest ones. They’re the ones where all the people you love somehow end up in the same story. 🤍 by @djrubot

Ru and Parker’s first meeting was classic New york :
They met in line for the bathroom at Good Room in Brooklyn, a nightclub they both loved. Parker was there celebrating his birthday, though Ru didn’t know it at the time. Ru felt compelled to say hello, and that was all. No sparks, no grand moment just a brief exchange before the night carried them in separate directions. Sometimes the beginning of a love story is so small, you don’t recognize it as a beginning at all.

About a month later, they found each other again on another dance floor. Their shared love of music gave them a reason to keep the story going, and Ru invited Parker to Paradisco, a Sunday ritual at Le Bain in New York City.

There, somewhere between the music and the movement, they found each other a little more clearly. After reconnecting on the dance floor, they shared their first kiss, and Ru asked Parker out. Their first date came a week later, and somehow, in the way the best New York love stories do, they’ve been together ever since.

The real shift came when Ru brought Parker to India for his brother’s wedding. Watching Parker step into Ru’s world with curiosity, tenderness, and joy embracing family, tradition, and the unfamiliar as though it had always belonged to him made the future feel suddenly less like a question and more like a promise.

Getting married in New York City at City Hall felt like the only way it could happen. This city has always been the backdrop to their story, the witness to its becoming.

From there, a handful of their favorite people joined them for an impromptu toast at the Boom Boom Room. The evening ended in the same building where they had shared their first kiss at Le bain years earlier. A full circle, exactly where it meant to be. ❤️

June.

My first June as a married man. Romantic, yes. Logistically, also huge.

Started by celebrating one of my favorite Geminis at the Scarlet Ball, in hot pink because subtlety remains unavailable to me.

Made it to San Francisco to cheer on my talented friends in the phenomenal new musical Lunchbox and catch up with my first New York friend, my former baby mama draft pick, now a mother of two.

Then off to the Berkshires for my own birthday: Pride, nature, and enough nerd discourse to briefly threaten my cool.

Closed the month at Le Bain with one of our best Pride parties yet. Sweaty, euphoric, a little feral.

Ru & Parker ❤️
Ru’s mom brought these beautiful flower garlands for their ceremony, a symbol of love, blessing, and the joining of two lives. Long after the vows were exchanged, Ru and Parker carried them through the streets of New York, weaving tradition into the rhythm of the city.
Amid the beautiful chaos of New York City the garlands became a reminder that love travels with us. Across cultures, across families, across every chapter that follows.
There was something beautiful about watching them embrace not only each other, but also the families, traditions, and histories that brought them to this moment.

I’m so grateful to have gone on another family trip to Jackson Hole! I have so many cherished memories of this place, and it was wonderful to make some new ones too.

It's been one year since I received the harrowing call that my dad had passed away while on vacation. I still miss him every day. The grief comes and goes, my priorities have changed, but the values he taught me remain strong. Fortunately, I sought to repair my relationship with him during his last decade on earth. During that time, we grew much closer; he shared his fears and concerns and often told me how proud he is of me. The feeling is mutual, Dad. I love you so much. ❤️

My dad never wanted to be paid back for his efforts. He just wanted acknowledgment and for us to pay it forward, and I promise to do that every day. by @djrubot
