Starting November 5th I will be running an introduction to plein air painting at Dulwich Art Group for 6 weeks on Thursday mornings . Starting with a contre jour approach and emphasis on tonal values the course will progress to the use of colour and more complex composition. Back in London and returned to Sloane Square to finish the Venus fountain before the leaves fall- despite running the fountain through the summer heat wave it’s now turned off to save water !#sloanesquare #pleinairpainting #impressionism #venus #fountain in by @djsawyerrba

Have continued to work on these 2 paintings of the old city of Polignano perched on the rocks overlooking the sea. The changing weather lead to 2 approaches, a painting of bright sunlight with dark shadows and another painted in an even flat light#pleinairpainting #paintingsinprogress #puglia #sunlightandshadows #seascape by @djsawyerrba

Another overcast day in Polignano but at least it didn’t rain. Painted via Roma where the lyrics to Volare are festooned along the street in lights. Oil on board 16”x12”(WIP)#volaré #polignano #pleinairpainting #italiansong #oilonboard by @djsawyerrba

Weather has changed in Puglia and is now grey and stormy. This afternoon I painted this understated classical church under grey stormy skies, the quiet geometry of the building suited the flat grey light and was a contrast to painting monumental and theatrical Baroque churches in bright sunlight. Early morning Polignano from Largo Grotta Ardito. The challenge in this painting is the fast changing shadows as the sun gets higher. WIP oil on board 12”x18”#pleinairpainting #seascape #polignano #impressionistpainting #oilpainting by @djsawyerrba
