It’s JSU Homecoming week, so we’re pulling out the crates!

This Thursday, I’m teaming up with DJ Phingaprint for a special Homecoming Edition of Conkrete Vinyl Night. We’ll be spinning a little bit of everything, from old favorites to some deep cuts. All vinyl, all night.

I might even bring a few records from OffBeat for y’all to dig through and take home.

If you’re back in town for homecoming or just looking for somewhere to hang out Thursday evening, come through!

🪩 NEEDLE DROP: BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE!

Tonight we’re digging deep into the ’80s!

Boogie, electro-funk, post-disco, and synth-heavy R&B. We’re going beyond the obvious hits with forgotten dance-floor favorites, deep cuts, rare grooves, and basslines that refuse to quit.

I’m bringing a crate straight from the bins at OffBeat, and every record played tonight will be available to purchase. Hear something you like? Take it home!

Don’t spend another Thursday night on the couch! Grab your friends and head to The Walk-In tonight. Get some dinner, order a cocktail, discover some records, and hang with us while the grooves keep rolling.

No cover, no reservations, no excuses. Just good music and good company. Come through!

POV: I raided the used bins at OffBeat for tonight’s Needle Drop.

Soul, funk, rock, new wave, jazz, deep cuts, weird finds…and maybe a few JoJo references if you know where to look. 👀

Everything I play tonight is FOR SALE — hear something you like, take it home.

Dallos Vinyl Love Chapter 8:

Opening an independent record store doesn’t exactly come with an instruction manual.

Marlo figured that out pretty quickly.

So instead of pretending he knew everything, he found people who did.

Through the Forever A Music Store Coalition (@famscoalition), Dallos connected with a network of Black-owned independent record stores across the country. Owners who have been behind the counter, dealt with the labels, chased down releases, put on events, made mistakes, figured some shit out.

And they share what they’ve learned.

For a newer shop like Dallos, that’s huge.

The relationships Marlo built through FAMS have helped open doors to record labels, promotions, exclusive opportunities and events that may otherwise never find their way to a young record store in Chattanooga. Like the opportunity to hang out with the legendary @mrchuckd

But the coolest part might just be the people.

Marlo told us that one of the guys who has really helped him along the way is @djyoungvenom from @offbeatjxn

Funny how this whole record-store world works, because OffBeat is another shop we’ll be telling the story of right here at Crate Culture Co.

Sometimes the shop in another city isn’t your competition. Sometimes they’re the ones answering the phone when you don’t know what the hell you’re doing.

Independent doesn’t have to mean alone.

Why the HELL is this record still in my shop? 😭

Vesta Williams — Vesta 4 U (1988).

“Congratulations” alone should’ve gotten this record outta here by now.

Y’all got some explaining to do.
