In the 1990s, San Antonio Park in Medellín was the site of a tragic bombing that resulted in the deaths of around 20 people and left dozens more injured. The attack, attributed to drug cartel violence, also destroyed a beloved Botero sculpture, a dove symbolizing peace. The bombing was part of a larger wave of violence during Colombia’s turbulent period, which targeted civilians and public spaces. The incident deeply scarred the city and became a symbol of the city’s struggle with violence and its eventual efforts to rebuild and restore peace.
