This cup is about to reach it’s final form! At this point I’ve run it through one kiln and have wiped iron oxide over the leaf impressions. The iron oxide settles into all of the shallow and deep lines. I then wipe away any surface left over iron oxide. It’s a weak colorant but it will move a bit if there is a bunch built up on the surface…and the affect when that happens is…very skid mark-esc. In this video you can see me removing the excess iron so we can have a cleaner look. #lovefxbg #ceramic #lovefxbg #artist #pottery #wheelthrown #ironoxide #nature #leaves by @dlecky

I throw bowls a bit differently then how I see a lot of potters throwing them. I was taught by Dan Finnegan @dan_finnegan_pottery to never stray from the bowl form you want, so I keep a very soft hand on the inside and avoid making anything other than long arching curves. As usual the outside hand is doing the clay lifting, so the effect is a deep curve in the center with a slightly straighter wall on the exterior (maybe…I always push it…😂)that I trim down to match the inside. I see a lot of potters throwing cylinders first and then leaning over the walls. This does indeed make a bowl, but then they are left battling a bump at the bottom between the wall and the side. It used to drive me crazy before I learned this method. #lovefxbg #artist #pottery #wheelthrown #ceramic by @dlecky

Instagram still confounds me. I can post 13 minute long videos on the clock app, but here they will not let me go past 3m without punishing me and music only lasts 90s…so here’s 90 seconds of a 3 minute video. I’ll post the rest of it in bits and bobs. #lovefxbg #ceramic #pottery #artist #wheelthrown #leaf by @dlecky

Here is the leaf removal from the cup. I totally meant to post this before the bowl, but left it in drafts like a daft cow. Anyway..HERE IT IS!! #lovefxbg #ceramic #artist #pottery #wheelthrown #leaves by @dlecky

A little snippet of how I do my leaf press. I push real leaves into the leather hard surface of the clay and then paint over them with slip. Tomorrow’s video will show you how I remove the leaves before firing…will I remove to post it?! WHO KNOWS!!#lovefxbg #ceramic #artist #pottery #calm #peaceful #wheelthrown by @dlecky

Another cup from yesterday. I fiddled a lot with this one. It’s a shame the camera didn’t catch my face as I thought my way through this. Tomorrow I’ll be decorating this guy and his pals so I hope to be able to show you some video of that too. #lovefxbg #ceramic #artist #pottery #calm #peaceful #wheelthrown by @dlecky

The world is so crazy right now, and I found a little peace at my wheel today. No music, no crazy editing, just me some mud and water. I was experimenting with new cup forms. It was fun to just play, with low expectations for the result. I hope you like it and I hope this gives you a little break from your stress too. #pottery #wheelthrown #artist #ceramic #lovefxbg #peaceful #calm by @dlecky

Thank you to all that came out yesterday and bought pots from me or any other artist in the square. We had such a great time meeting you and getting to know you and your families. Thank you to @soulegacymusic for getting an amazing line out of musicians to play for us all day too. And thank you to Mother Nature for giving us nice clear day. But hot, but we can’t have it all!! #pottery #ceramic #artfair #artist #leaves #nature #craftfair #lovefxbg by @dlecky
