I Will Always Love You 🖤

Was a joy hosting, interviewing and celebrating some of the industry’s up and coming singer songwriters at ‘Songs We Wish We Wrote and Songs We Did’ at @phoenixartsclub

Although I’m not a singer songwriter myself I thought I’d start the evening with a song written by Dolly Parton which later inspired Whitney Houston, both of whom have inspired me.

‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ during Pride at @theroomwhereithappenssoho, will honestly go down as such a core memory for me.

Pride is such an important day of remembrance, and this song means so much to so many people and it was truly surreal being in that moment, sitting on the piano looking around at everyone living in this one bubble of love, acceptance and hope, together.

It was an absolute honour and privilege to host this event and it turned out so much more magical than I ever thought, and now having taken time to reflect I have really gotten how much of a responsibility that is, and that it takes being so settled in your own skin to be at the forefront of an event like that.

It’s important to find those moments of fun and campiness, but it’s crucial for our community to reflect and celebrate the journeys that each of us have been on, both the loud journeys and the silent ones too. It’s important to reach out and thank our allies who were there for us, when were weren’t there for ourselves, and to remember those watching, both near and far, in countries or circumstances that may not allow them to be fully self expressed.

We need remember our own trans siblings, who took to the streets marching, rioting and even kick lining during the Stonewall riots, and who even on our own doorstep in 2025 are battling critics, media, medical professionals and so much more than most of us are unaware of.

This truly was such a special Pride and I have to thank my amazing friends and colleagues for joining in this celebration, they really are the best and were doing the real work.

Pride is a protest. It’s a protest that has been capitalised and commercialised with glitter and rainbows, but at its nature it is about love, and we must ensure that we never get it taken from us.
