I don’t know what I’m doing. But I’m trying really hard.

A few years ago I decided I want to do my best at something for once in my life. I decided to make an album that I’m proud of on every level. I worked long shifts, I sacrificed time with friends and family, many nights I would work 13+ hour days and spend all night writing and trying to hone my craft, just to go straight back to work in the morning with little to no sleep. Washing down pain pills with Red Bull so that I can keep grinding.

In the past 3 years my wife and I have welcomed 2 angels into this world. I couldn’t be more grateful and yet terrified. God has carried us and changed our trajectory. That’s what this is all about.

This is my flag in the ground. This is me.
“LIVE FROM THE PLACE TO BE” is a declaration to say yes to the life God has given me. It’s not the prettiest, it’s not what I dreamed of. But it’s mine. And it’s a gift.

I’m saying yes to this life of fatherhood, artistry, humanity… I will fight for this.

Through this next month I’ll be sharing some things that are special to me. Things that I really fought for. I made a page for the album here ➡️ @live.from.the.place.to.be this is for people that want to be a part of this release and engage. If you just want to see what I’m doing and watch from the outside (which I’m grateful for) you can just keep following this page. But if you want to engage and really be involved then go follow the album page.

There is a slide above of my toe that I chopped in half with a hatchet about a week ago 😅 I just wanted to share that cause right now I’m out of work and not able to do all that I wanted to physically for this roll out. I still gotta be a father, I still gotta make art, I still gotta say yes to this life.

I’m ready. Let’s do this.

I have more to say, but I’ve said enough for now.

The most valuable asset to the gallery are the People. Curators and Artists spend months planning for what is commonly a one day event sometimes a couple of hours. The gallery values, long-term relationships and the depth of the process. To all those working to build something tangible from your dreams, you are not alone.

OUR NEXT EVENT - @dmarcuslive will hold the first Music Exhibition of its kind for @ellegalleryportland in a Series of Music focused experiences.

2weeks away. I feel… conflicted. On one hand I’m tired and stressed 😂 I can’t even lie. We have been working really hard to bring this thing to life. I’ve been going 24-36 hours without sleeping to maximize the time that i have. Many of yall might not know, I work graveyard shifts as a caretaker, plus I got two little ones that need my love and presence. So I’ve been sacrificing sleep to make a lot of things happen.

And on the other hand… I Am elated and filled with Joy. There is so much formation happening within me through this process. I am not the same person I was when I started this and that’s the most beautiful part about art, man. Living out this opportunity alongside so many people who believe in me has been an incredibly blessed endeavor.

On the outside this may look just like a show but is so much more than that. This gathering is an all out pursuit of purpose, to come alongside our community and empower us to contend for life. Passivity and loneliness plagues us, and I want to do my part in building a framework for us to cultivate the deeper parts of our lives on a day to day basis, and gather together in this world to use art the way I believe God intended that we would. And that’s to build us up, and draw us closer to him.
