I’m still buzzing with excitement after sitting down with the incredible Audrey Biesk. Audrey is cohost of WXII 12’s The Local Vibe Morning Show. What makes it even more special is that it’s based out of my hometown of Greensboro, NC

During our interview, we delved into the heart and soul of my upcoming book, “Joy Comes,” discussing its underlying message and the inspiration behind it. We also explored what motivates me as an author, the purpose behind The Rules of Big Boss, and so much more. It was an enlightening and thought-provoking conversation that left me feeling grateful for the opportunity.

I hope that you all enjoy the conversation. Stay tuned for more updates on Joy Comes and let me know in the comments if you’ll be at Next Chapter Bookstore/Ben’s Boyz on July 22, 2023 for the official release.

Oh yeah and a huge shoutout and debt of gratitude goes to the amazing Kaela Carter, the producer of the show. She worked tirelessly to set up this incredible opportunity, to include giving me homework to do over the weekend 😅. Thank you, Kaela, for your support and belief in the power of storytelling!

I received a message from Jeanice McCord, Digital Marketing Manager, IngramSpark on August 15, 2023. She extended a special invitation for me to join IngramSpark in their “Why I Publish Series.” The aim behind the series is to spark of inspiration worldwide and encourage everyone to discover their own path to publishing. It’s also a platform to shine a spotlight on talented but lesser-known authors and publishers who share IngramSpark’s ethos of “Share Your Story” with the world.

Jeanice presented me with a series of thought-provoking questions that left me deep in contemplation. Her comforting assurance that there was no need to hurry allowed me to craft responses straight from the heart, at my own pace. 🤔 One particular question, “What makes you unique as an author?” really made me reflect. My answer to this question is captured in this clip, which I’m excited to share with you!

Rachel Boyd, Reporter, Spectrum News stopped by Ben’s Boys on March 5, 2022. She did so so that she could cover my daughter, Haelee and I in a story about my debut children’s book, Dear Daughter: A Love Story.

She said, “The bond between a father and a daughter is irreplaceable, but not every little girl has the luxury of having a dad in her life. When Dedrick Moone realized this, he decided he would shoulder the load and become a surrogate dad for every child out there who is missing a father figure. He decided to write a book, "Dear Daughter: A Love Story” to help.” She also provided that, “With this book Moone hopes to show that not all fathers drop the ball when it comes to being a loving parent, and if one happens to, then he hopes the book has the capacity to fill that hole in someone's heart where a dad should be.”

Spectrum News was originally going to hold the story until Fathers Day but Rachel and the producers decided to air it today in advance of Easter. She said, “You have such a great story and tell it with so much grace and passion! I’m honored to be able to share it with our audience.” I shed a tear as she shared with me how it unfolded. She laughed and said, “Those better be tears of joy.” I assured her that they were and that my favorite part of it is how she blended herself and her own dad into the story. Her doing so was the icing on the cake for me, because it allowed me to see that she as a daddy’s girl herself understands and appreciates that one good thing that I’m trying to do in the world. She also assured me that it was okay to cry because it’s something that girls dads tend to do where it comes to our daughters.

I told my wife that one of my greatest struggles in life was finding home. I found it the day I said, “I do” to her. There’s nowhere I’d rather be than beside her, sharing all of life’s wins and challenges.

So on her 49th birthday, I tended to our daughter, pulled up to her job, recruited a few accomplices and told her, “It’s time to call it a day. Let’s go celebrate.”

Please join me in wishing her an amazing trip around the sun.

I’m a loner, so I said, “No” when my wife asked if I wanted her to help me study as I prepared my Sunday School lesson. I developed my framework, then shared where I was going with it (mentoring, legacy, courage, and fear) later.

It’s a good thing I did because I told her that I had to take a dump as we pulled up to church. She said, “You’ve got 15 minutes. I’ll start Sunday School for you if you’re not out by then.”

I instantly regretted saying no as I sat there. She texted me at 9:41 asking, “Are you okay.” I told her I was washing my hands and headed towards the sanctuary with 4 minutes to spare.

Even on her birthday weekend, she was ready to step in and cover for me while I handled some stanky business.
That’s the beauty of marriage, having a real tag-team partner (helpmeet) who has your back even when your stomach doesn’t.

My wife said she was going to grill some chicken after the storm last night. I responded, “No you’re not. I made reservations so throw on something business casual.”

I mean, what do I look like having her cook dinner on her birthday weekend?! Relatively speaking, her birthday isn’t actually until Tuesday, but that’s a technicality. That being the case, do as I say woman.

Happy almost birthday to my amazing wife.

Im tired but still smiling from an incredible Tuesday as I share a few photos from our latest Empowerment Unleashed gathering.

What started as an idea has grown into something much bigger a family of leaders, volunteers, and changemakers committed to uplifting the one another and the community around us.

I’ve watched people show up during difficult moments, celebrate wins together, and pour into the lives of others with compassion and purpose. That’s what makes Empowerment Unleashed special. It has always been about creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward.

I’m grateful to have facilitated this journey alongside an amazing group of servant leaders. We hope to see some of you at our next event this coming fall.

I finally got a chance to sit down and look through the videos and photos from our most recent Empowerment Unleashed event and all I can say is… WOW.

What started as a vision for bringing people together through empowerment, resources, advocacy, and genuine community care is turned into something bigger than I could’ve imagined. Seeing the smiles, conversations, networking, laughter, and moments of encouragement captured in real time reminded me why this work matters.

Thank you to every single person who showed up, partnered with us, poured into others, shared resources, volunteered, spoke life into someone, or simply trusted in the power of my vision for community. Y’all helped create a space where people felt seen, heard, and supported.

Her: Dad, how are you going to write a whole blog post and not post the photos on IG?
Me: I thought you were going to do it lil bro
Her: How… with what?

Me: The photos I sent you!
Her: You only sent videos, dad.
Me: Oh my bad.

Anyway, here’s the long overdue photo dump from our amazing day at Sledge Institute where the ladies made me feel like I was a short king.

Do y’all believe that the ladies are incredibly tall or do y’all believe I’m Papa Smurf?

My dad is a more fun and engaging facilitator than me. He somehow gets everyone involved without even trying.

He told them about his haters and heroes. At one point, some of the students literally asked HIM if he could take them outside to play. Not me, HIM. That tells you everything you need to know.

He let them down gently and said he couldn’t because it’s “against the rules.” I’m not sure which rule that he was referring to other than him being several decades older than he used to be.

But seriously, watching him read from Everyday Heroes and pull people into the story was something special. He had students and faculty introducing themselves, sharing who their hero is and why, and really leaning into the message.

That heroes don’t wear capes. They’re everyday people.

People like my dad is to me.

Thank you Dad for showing up the way you always do. And thank you to Sledge Institute for having us and for putting up with him.

Who’s your personal hero and why?

I went to Shaw’s career fair on March 19th thinking I’d just talk network about internships, but I ended up having a meaningful conversation on another path. I met Jarad Mack and Janay Ward from Sledge Institute. It’s a tuition-free K–12 public charter school in Henderson, NC founded by Dr. Chandra Sledge Mathias. Their focus on building future leaders through project based learning stood out to me.

I told them I’m studying Mass Communications and Political Science, so I wasn’t exactly their target candidate. But we connected anyway. I shared more about The Rules of a Big Boss and gave them some of my media materials. They were genuinely interested and invited my dad and I to come read and talk with their students during their Story Fest today.

My dad has all the photos locked in his phone, so you’re going to have to stay tuned to see how the day went.

Opportunities don’t always come from where you expect them. Sometimes it’s just about showing up and being ready.
