POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
“Heirloom Pieces”

Words that have tip toed around my life, but since becoming a father have taken on a deeper meaning.
~story time~
I was commissioned to make this Hashookah for @wackrad and @hoogsmakingit to celebrate their love and marriage. While making it, Tyler and I spent hours on the phone discussing life, art, and the turmoils and victories that come with both.

The day I finished it, Tyler and Hoogie came down to spend time with me and the crew, @willstarglass & @blotterglass. Tyler is primarily a painter, and Hoogie is a master of textiles.

There were moments when all five of us were independently working on our projects. No speech, just flow state and creativity swirling around the room. Pure magic.. Those are moments I hold dear.

Tyler gifted me the painting they had been working on. A few days later, when the couple returned to pick up their Hashookah, Hoogie gifted a quilt she had made for my son.

During our conversations, Tyler told me they intended to keep their Hashookah forever—a sacred piece celebrating their life together. But it wasn’t until Hoogie handed me that quilt that the meaning of an heirloom really landed.

Something made by hand that becomes part someone’s life forever. It carries memories, love, connection.. Something treasured enough to keep for a lifetime, and perhaps pass down through generations.

There are few objects we hold that close. Knowing my art had found that place in their hearts moved me more than I can explain.

Now Tyler’s painting lives in my creative space, where I can look at it with gratitude and happiness. My son has this beautiful, intricately handmade quilt—something I hope he’ll treasure throughout his life.

My greatest intention with my Hashookahs: to create an heirloom for the collector. Something special they want to keep forever. A sacred piece that carries their stories and stays in the family for generations.
Side note I totally gave a speech at the wedding and dabbed up the newly wed couple in front of their whole fam. It was sublime. I love love❤️♾️🔥
Congrats Tyler and Hoogie! Thanks for allowing me the privilege to be apart of your life and love 🫡♾️🔥❤️#art #heirloom #hashookahing by @dmopglass

50 Layback Minitube process, experience, & life lessons learned.
I was given a fantastic opportunity to make 50 custom Layback Minitubes for one of my favorite companies, @wojoco.official. There was a catch, there was about a 4 week deadline, & i am a new father to a beautiful baby boy(6months old).

*pulls up big boy pants & gets to work*

I want to start by shouting out my boy, @willstarglass for prepping all the marbles n Millie encasements for me. He even made extras so if I broke pieces I could continue assembly without having to salvage marbles. Without that help, there’s no way I could’ve finished in time.

Willy has been a mentor to me for over decade. One thing he really reinforced in me is when it comes to production work, it’s best to work in an assembly line fashion-shape all the tubes, form all the joints, make all the perks, etc, it strengthens your skill in producing; if you mess up, you can try the exact thing you gizzled right away.

So here’s my stats on my project:
50 first quality tubes took
2 misshapen tubes
6 broken joints
2 broken perks
7 broken tubes
5 burns on my arms

During this experience, I learned new techniques n thought of new aesthetics to implement to my Layback Minis.
One was a way to streamline the production of the disk perks. Another was the multi bridge for the stem, more durability, and a fun techy style. The last was on the 50th tube, a “Zong” style neck, an ode to an old school design that was nostalgic for my early glass obsession- so fitting for the form.

The point I am really trying to share is that when you are chasing a goal or dream, even with the best efforts & intentions, there will be pitfalls, speedbumps, and failures. It’s important to push forward with a positive mindset, learn from your mistakes, & keep moving. If you do, not only will you accomplish your goal, but you will learn new things you never would have thought of otherwise.

All of this was a lot for me, it was tough. But I had the lights of my life, my lady & my baby, to fuel my flame.

I’m grateful for this experience/opportunity, thank you WOJO CREW!!

Some of my favorite highlights from Riverside Sessions Volume 001
From the moment we left home, the whole time there, and to the moment we got back, it was amazing vibes. I feel so charged up on life and glass art right now. Grateful for the good times and amazing energy. It’s for moments like this that I started blowing glass in the first place.. Traveling somewhere new, meeting people, and challenging myself to make something beautiful.
Thanks for the unforgettable memories, I’ll cherish them forever ❤️🔥♾️⚡️

Riverside Sessions Volume 001 Hashookah Assembly
“Inverted Aquarium of the Cosmos”

Epic 8 way collab with @whos_boro @sunyaglass @blotterglass @bigmellons_glass @jackpotglass @glass_turbation @dianethequeenofgreen
Commissioned by @patlovespyrex aka @flameworkfunctions

Wowza it’s hard to put into words what the experience of creating this piece means to me.
Being able to lead a team of passionate artists to bring this vision to reality was an unforgettable experience. It tested my flameworking skills in new ways and I’m proud to have accomplished this goal.
I need the sculptural components to these pieces to be within .5mm tolerances, and everyone did so well in making sure I had the right parts to be able to assemble this Hashookah smoothly.
In addition, this piece was made while battling various environmental adversities; blowing glass outside, on a hillside, with rain and wind. Our tent even collapsed a couple times. As a team we always maintained a positive attitude and were able to overcome the challenges and create something beautiful.

Grateful for my dudes Kevin @sunyaglass and Kane @blotterglass for helping me with the final assembly on this beast. Kevin followed my instructions super well and got heat bases just right, and assisted to zip of the welds with quick precision. Kane used the Bunsen and kept the piece in a warm atmosphere which allowed us to work with patience and peace of mind that no sudden cracks would occur.
My favorite part about my hashookahs are they take a team of my friends to make, and they are made to be enjoyed by the collector and their friends. Full circle stuffs..
Big thank you to @rockcastleriverside_ and @theonisound for hosting, @flameworkfunctions for commissioning this piece. Shout out to sponsors for the dope gear @headysavers @bussintools @abrimagery @spunlove1.0 @thebotanybay
@doctor.iso, and @avanheyde for getting some great footage!:)
If you read all this, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! This Hashookah meant the world to me, and I have a couple few more posts to make about the piece and festival! Much love!!

Fun custom I did for my dude @dr30dave. This piece is inspired by the late great @contrabasso. I’m happy to say our paths crossed at a Banjo class out in Eugene Oregon in 2018. I was pretty star struck when I met Eli, but he shared some kind words to me about staying motivated and pushing myself in new directions. You could tell how excited he was about glass art, and that energy charged me up!

I tend to draw my inspirations from my favorite artists and put my own tweak on things to keep them original. When working on this project, I couldn’t help but admire Eli’s mind in creating such a unique design and especially the neck/mouthpiece.
After completing it I was pleased with the function, and the beauty of it is creating this piece gave me a couple new, different ideas for new projects I am currently working on.

Idk I guess I’m trying to say that it can be scary as an artist to use someone else’s ideas, but I think it’s okay if you draw inspiration, add a tweak or two, and have good intentions to grow and learn from the experience. Often times in doing so you will find a new idea you never would have thought of had you not explored with the existing idea.

Anyway, thanks for the good vibes everyone. I really appreciate the energy. 🙏🏻❤️‍🔥#art #glassart #headyglass by @dmopglass

First hashookah and functional piece out of the home studio:) A fun tweak on my classic Hashookah design, 6 seal to the spiky base is really appealing to me! I’m hyped with how it came out!
I ended up driving the piece out to the collector one state over in Indiana. It was awesome getting to meet and get a lil sesh in. Thank you so much for the scoop @flawlesschazzobg it was great meeting you!
I will always prefer hand delivering glass if it’s possible. It’s a great chance to chat up stories and get to know the individuals who like my glass art:)
I also wanna thank everyone who has believed in me by supporting my art over the years. I’m eternally grateful, I wouldn’t be where I am now without you all!!!!

This is a tough post for me to make, albeit overdue. This is about my shop @spectrumglassstudio. This is going to be long, so if you read all of this, thank you!

Where to begin..I went to school for scientific glassblowing in New Jersey 2015, during that time I was exposed to the Philly glass scene. The Philly scene is super tight. Tons of shops basically right next door to one another. I had a dream of finishing school, moving back home, and building something similar.
I moved to New Jersey to learn glass, because back in 2015 i couldnt find anyone to teach me glass pipes in my home town of Columbus Ohio. I suppose my goal in opening a shop was centered around creating a community, and spreading the knowledge and culture of glass pipes in Columbus
When I moved back home, I moved into by buddies @tedrowglass and @willstarglass studio. I worked there for close to a year before the pieces of my life arranged and I felt it time to open my dream studio. That was back in April 2019,
@spectrumglassstudio was born, with a slogan #awaveofculture.
It was a trip, seeing the shop come together. Countless hands helped out to make a creative space for pipemakers to coexist. Even better a few of my friends I had met in new Jersey at Salem actually moved to Ohio to come blow glass in my studio. What a wild, happy, exciting time that was.
Covid hit, and the pipe scene still seemed to flourish.
The shop was super fun and over the years countless heads blew glass there. Some for just a few months, some for a few years, some for many years. Local shops had shows there, as well as brought in artists from different states to throw down. Friends I met over the years traveling came by to hang and make glass.
In 2023 I went through a breakup that shattered me. I wish I had been stronger then, but I wasn’t. My mental health plummeted.
Being the captain of a ship and having your mental health hit rock bottom doesn’t really go well together. It took over a year for me to bounce back from that. I apologize to everyone who was around me then. I wasn’t myself and I wasn’t fun to be around. (Continued in comments) by @dmopglass

Kingbong Hashookah! Collaboration with my buddy @skilletglass from earlier this year, made for his show at @high_intentions_ak.
Figuring out how to mount Zac’s large sculpted gorilla onto one of my pieces, while also considering function for 3 individuals, made for a uniquely fun and challenging build. It felt great to pull it off!:) Kingbong came with all the hashookah accessories needed to give it supreme versatility for any sesh, including 3 middle shaped mouthpieces:)
This one sold to @yea_imtheconnoisseur. Thanks for the scoop man! #24
