* LAMS un-mounted for comparison"

Took the time to stretch the legs on the 3 primary "budget" lams on the market. The M6TR EEL ( left) emitters models have been supplanted by the VCSEL version but the EEL M6TR handily beats the output of the other 2. I do find the ergos and footprint of the trinity (center) & Iris 3 (right) to be superior, with top mounted focus sliders compared to the M6TR's rear mounted adjustment knob, which allows quick focus adjustment while maintaining C-clamp.

Output of all units are good but the trinity's 100 MW VCSEL and the M6TRs 35MW EEL do put the Iris's 60 MW VCSEL to shame here and is very apparent at the 7 & 500 yrd ranges. The SMS trinity really ahowed it strength keeping up pretty favorably with the M6TR, despite being the cheapest unit of the bunch. Regardless, all 3 units show that gone are days that quality LAMS where only available through Grey market and ridiculously expensive vapor ware units and that the NV market is trending further to the commercial end user.

This build has gone through several iterations, experimenting with 18” and 12.5” barrels before settling on the Rosco 13.9” Purebred SPR profile. It’s proven to be a solid middle ground: manageable overall length without sacrificing the accuracy and heat resistance I was looking for.

For the operating system, I went with a Superlative Arms short-stroke piston setup for heat and gas mitigation, paired with a KAK dual-ejector bolt that’s delivered consistent feeding throughout testing.

The road to getting it running right wasn’t without its headaches. A gas block that kept walking led to leakage and eventually a failure to cycle (totally my fault, I initially dimpled the barrel too shallow) Once that issue was finally resolved, the rifle was running around 1,000 RPM—functional, but faster than I wanted.

After further tuning, I brought the cyclic rate down to around 750 RPM, finding a much better balance between controllability and reliability.

A good reminder that a successful build is about understanding how they work together, working through the problems, and refining the system until everything comes together.

In all seriousness, NODS are niche but but are a learning curve, use the NODS.

Apparently my hobby is driving people places, taking videos, cheering loudly and supporting everyone else’s increasingly expensive hobbies. 🤣

This was Lucian’s first USPSA match, and I gotta say — watching him do something he’d been excited to try was pretty damn fun.

But possibly my favorite part was listening to all these grown men absolutely HYPE EACH OTHER UP. 😂👏

“Nice run!”
“Hell yeah!”
“That was awesome!”
“You killed it!”

Just a bunch of dudes with expensive hobbies being wholesome little cheerleaders for each other, and honestly, I’m here for it.

And a very special, incredibly sincere thank you to our friend Max for introducing my husband to this wonderfully affordable sport that apparently requires a new “upgrade” every 11 minutes. We appreciate you, Max. Truly. 😑😂

And since our last couple shooting reels taught me that the internet is positively BURSTING with unsolicited professional guidance… I’m sure everyone will be very normal about his first match. 😌😂

There were nerves to shake out, a jammed finger, headphones that decided to quit on the job and plenty of first-match figuring-it-out happening in real time.

And he still did freaking awesome.

Fast forward a few matches later and apparently we have ourselves a new hobby. Which is great. Thrilled for him.

My hobby remains supporting everyone else’s hobbies. 😂❤️

Proud of you, babe.

It's an old hypebeast cartridge sir, but it checks out.

Did a little 1-400 yard 2 position 8 round drill with the grendel today.

Ran it 4 times, 3 A zones and 2 Cs at 400 (thought I threw a round low in the video but actually clipped bottom C near the line break).

Holding about 3 Mils high at 400, 123gr 6.5G drops like a very straight football.

Yesterday marked the 81st anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima. 8 years ago I had the privilege to visit the island and walk route that took U.S forces to the top of Mt.Suribachi. Much of the Japanese defensive infrastructure is still intact and climbing the seawall just as the marines did and immediatley coming face to face with a 20mm autocannon in a concrete pillbox was a sobering moment. My trip to Iwo Jima profoundly deepened my appreciation for the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve of the men of the USMC involved in Operation Detachment. by @dnc_drip

First time hitting the range with the @smslaserofficial trinity @night_team_chupacabra NV training event. Overall trinity performed quite well no malfunctions, i will say when zeroing my specific trinity had some of the most stout current adjustments I've experience on a LAM and felt very solid. Output is impressive, the large focus adjustment and stepped power meetering was also appreciated. The side and top mounted controls worked great for the limited rail space on the MPX and I was able to get an axon squeezed behind it, the trinity is a little tall in conjunction with the size of the MPX handgaurd for me to get my thumb comfortably on the device fire button. On most AR rails it should be just fine but on other platforms it may be a bit hard to access.

One specific con I found was the sensitivity of the double tapp constant on function. It's about a half second too short and caused a few IR ND situations with the LAM staying activated when I didn't mean for it to be.

I know there has been some reports of wandering zero on these and mine does not appear to have experienced this but a couple hundred rounds on a roller blowback 9mm sub gun is just not enough for me to comment on this yet.

I've been waiting for some less than stellar conditions to put NVT-7 through, and they finally manifested this morning. No moon, overcast, and fog at ground level. Any nightvision device will produce a decent image in perfect conditions but the real test of performance comes in conditions like these. This is not a modern gen II vs modern gen III discussion, which would require a post all its own, just simply letting the device do the work and stand on its own merit. That being said, the latest multi-alkali tubes can perform and offer quite a bit of performance for a relatively low entry cost. Also, I will say that this units performance in mixed lighting conditions is impressive, likely owing to photonis 4g basis of the design.
