these are scenes from HeartBreak, a short film a few friends and i made this spring.

it's become one of the most gratifying and heartfelt projects i've gotten to work on thus far.

i met Ahmed in an acting class earlier this year, at a time when i was looking for clarity about my next steps. we grew close while working on scenes together, deep chats over beer and pool. we opened up about the mistakes we'd made in the past, talked about our plans for the future, and connected over the stories we want to tell.

he introduced me to Charisma and Pierre, and together, the four of us brought Pierre's vision to life.

we first screened HeartBreak in early June for cast + crew, plus Hudaa, Ahmed's sister. i remember feeling so moved by the way we captured the innocence of young love, and overwhelmed with gratitude for my friends.

we screened it again a few weeks ago, at a ceremony honoring Ahmed, remembering the beautiful, vibrant mark he left on his friends, family, and the world. piled atop one another around the small makeshift screen, we all clutched our red daises, the flowers he gives to earn his lost love’s forgiveness.

i hope you enjoy HeartBreak. i hope it makes you feel something. i hope you feel inspired to reach out to a loved one, to hold them a little bit tighter.

happy birthday, Dee. i miss you. i love you. i'm endlessly proud of you.

this is HeartBreak. the full short is linked in my bio.
