Gulf Blue carries more weight than almost any other color in motorsport history. It wasn’t created for a road car, it was born on the 917, the car that gave Porsche its first overall Le Mans win in 1970 and then defended it in 1971 with Helen Rodriguez and Jackie Oliver setting a distance record that stood for nearly 40 years. That light blue paired with orange became instantly recognizable worldwide, not because of marketing, but because the car wearing it was simply faster than everything else on the track. 1971 was peak Gulf-Porsche. The 917K was at its most refined, the 917/20 “Pink Pig” was pushing aero experiments to the extreme, and Gulf’s livery had become as iconic as the cars themselves. Decades later, Porsche turned that exact shade into a Paint to Sample option, letting modern cars wear a piece of that legacy. Seeing it on a Spyder RS isn’t about flash.
