Happy World Giraffe 🦒 Day!

This is a one of the rare encounters I’ve had with the long necks.

Who knows how much longer giraffes will be around. They are currently suffering a silent extinction – giraffe numbers in Africa have dropped to around 40% in just the last three decades alone!
The Masai giraffe lost half of its population in the last 30 years!!!

Happy World Gorilla Day! 🦍 flashback to my second time seeing these amazing creatures in the wild. First time was Bwindi in Uganda. THe experience in the DRC was forking amazing. The lodge was fabulous. The hike was not for the weak. Very very humbling to be next to these creatures.

When you’re there, in their presence it’s so humbling. We are so similar as a species. But their size. Good night they’re huge. And part of me wanted to run away in fear. And part of me wanted to hug them and live with them forever.

At the rate this world is going I doubt they’ll be many left in the wild. So if visiting gorillas is on your bucket list. Just do it.

I sound really good in my head. I wish I played better but it is what it is. I don’t practice enough and get frustrated. But I pick it up every now and then. And then, then my fingers get sore and I get frustrated that it doesn’t come easier and six months or a year goes by and I Seem to be back where I started. Ho hum.

My starlink sucks and the mosquitoes suck. But I strum at the moon and howl at the guitar and life goes on with or without me. taken in Maun, Botswana by @dochollisann

🤍 Introducing Chobe-8! Welcome to the family! You’re scrappy and sweet and we love you lots! 7Bear is happy to have a little brother buddy to play with. I look forward to many adventures with this little dude.

Thank you @bspca.bw for saving him. He was found abandoned in a box and raised in foster care. Last slide was the day he was rescued.
