A New Season

What began as a consulting and creative collaboration has grown into something much larger.
This fall, I’ll be stepping into a full-time leadership role at Canyon Ranch as Director of Eastern Medicine & Spirituality — integrating Eastern medicine and spiritual wellness into the guest experience across all 3 Canyon Ranch locations: Austin, Tucson, and Lenox.

It’s an extraordinary opportunity to bring together so much of the work I’ve been developing for a lifetime — Chinese medicine, functional medicine, contemplative medicine... and the deeper dimensions of whole-person wellness: lifelong health, well-being, purpose, connection, presence and joy - to help shape how this work is experienced at one of the world’s most respected wellness institutions.

I’d love to welcome you to Canyon Ranch Austin this fall — we open to the public on October 15.

With gratitude,
Dr. Cass Naumann, DACM, LAc.

Cancun + Isla Mujeres
August 2026

Highlights-

Private taxi to 4 cenotes on Monday

Thursday- we swam with the whale sharks!
4 dives.
And it was one of most peaceful yet exhilarating experiences of our life.
On the first dive there were also several huge manta rays.

Daily brunch and sunset dinners at L’Estancia- Argentinian steakhouse on property with almost 360 views of the ocean.

I taught 2 yoga classes a day at Club Med Cancun and the rest of our stay was non stop activity: snorkeling the worlds second largest reef, SUP, sailing;
Sports island; archery, pickle ball, ping pong, putt putt, trapeze, basketball, beach volleyball…
A waterpark!

Every night had 3 hour long shows of various entertainment. We danced and sang and drank and celebrated life.

Most everyone on holiday was French- we got to brush up our French and Spanish. Which made Justice’s first international trip feel more exotic.

Thank you to @fitbodiesinc for these opportunities to teach yoga in exchange for these amazing vacations!

Much more below in the comments

Swimming with the whale sharks a few days ago off Isla Mujeres with my son @thejusticeholley

By far one of the most beautiful, majestic, and exhilarating experiences of our lives.

We got 4 dives together. These are clips from each. On the last one (clip 6) I just coasted, turned on my side, and beamed love from my heart to this magnificent creature, attempting to communicate telepathically, and he turned his head to look at me, acknowledging what I asked!

Such an incredible experience where time seems to totally stop, life goes silent, and you are fully present in awe and wonder.

A week in paradise.
Negril, Jamaica
Couples Swept Away @couplesresorts
My 7th time teaching here over the last 20+ years. This trip I taught meditation, breath-work, yoga nidra and offered sound healing meditations.
The floating sound bath was most popular.

Of all the places I’ve traveled around the world- this beach is still my favorite.
7 straight miles of white soft sand, crystal clear waist deep waters.
I swam with dolphins and sting rays up close.
July is slow season and very hot- but the waters are cool and there is a breeze. And it’s all inclusive- with a flag you put up on the beach and someone appears to take your order.

Swept away has the largest fitness center in the Caribbean. Tennis, squash, pickleball, the European craze paddle board- classes almost every hour- yoga, pilates, Zumba, HITT, it goes on…plus the gym and sauna/steam rooms, hot tubs, hydrotherapy…

Everyone I spoke to that went to the spa said they had the best massage of their life. I have to agree- top 3 ever- for sure. The CBD upgrade may have helped…

I met doctors and midwives here both visiting and serving the community.
I’m proud of be a supporter of the @issatrustfoundation -supporting the children in Jamaica. Please donate if you feel called.

I can’t remember the last time I slept this much- in the huge comfy bed, naps on a hammock on the beach, even the plane ride home.

Restored, refreshed, and ready to share from a full heart. taken in Couples Swept Away -- Negril, Jamaica by @doctor.cass

Already whole. Already luminous. Already free.

This is the heart of everything I do — and the through-line of my conversation with Voyage Austin.

We trace the whole arc: the piano at four, Kyoto, the Dragon Gate lineage, and the concierge practice where music, movement, and medicine became one art — the art of helping people arrive back home to themselves.

Now the work rises to meet a wider sky — doctoral teaching, clinical residencies, a forthcoming book, and the larger communities where this medicine is being woven into the future of healing.

Grateful to everyone on this path alongside me. 🦁

Yesterday I had the profound honor of opening our home for The Inner Fire with Dr. Cass Naumann and I’m still feeling the resonance of it all.

There are people you meet in this life who feel strangely familiar. Like your soul recognizes them before your mind catches up.

When I met Cass, my immediate feeling was simply… “Oh, there you are.”

Watching her move so masterfully between ancient healing modalities - tea ceremony, acupuncture, sound, meditation, Qi Gong, emotional alchemy, feels less like someone who studied these practices and more like someone who has lived them for many lifetimes.

I’ve now experienced Cass’s Japanese tea ceremony three times, and the last one happened to fall on my birthday. Somehow each experience opens me more deeply than the last. The silence. The reverence. The presence. It quiets my soul in a way that’s difficult to explain unless you’ve experienced it yourself.

And somewhere between practicing Qi Gong beneath my trees, listening to the wind move through the backyard, and sharing space with such beautiful humans… I somehow made a new friend in my own home.

That’s the magic of Intentional gathering.

Of slowing down enough to truly arrive.

I feel incredibly lucky to call Cass a friend and deeply honored that our home could hold this experience.

We’ll be gathering again on July 19th here in Cuernavaca for the next Inner Fire experience. If you’ve been craving softness, connection, stillness, healing, or simply a return to yourself… I cannot recommend this experience enough.

Come sit with us. 🤍

Limited to 10 guests. DM @doctor.cass for details or to reserve your spot.

For Barbara. My Nana.

May your final thought be gratitude.
May your final breath be peace.

I looked up the meaning of the word Nana just now.
It means Grace in Hebrew.
Spring in Japanese.
Lady in Swahili.
A title of honor for elders, royalty, and spiritual leaders — recognizing the depth of spirit, wisdom, and power in many traditions/languages.

My Nana helped raise me. She lived with us through a significant part of my childhood, and her presence shaped me in ways I’m still discovering.

There is this photo of us at the ocean — little me in floaties, both of us making muscles at the camera. I like to think she was teaching me, even then, what it looks like to be strong.

Around 8 year old, she taught me to sew buttons on sweatshirts on Sunday nights. To cross-stitch. To write in cursive.
For decades we wrote to each other by hand and mailed letters back and forth through snail mail talking about our feelings, our lives, our loves. I have boxes with over 100 of those letters that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Growing up, she took me to ‘get my hair done’ every Sunday. Sometimes she’d ask to have her hair dyed the same shade of red as mine. She taught me how to care for it — and my red hair became one of my favorite things about myself. Because of her. Because she loved it. Because she loved me.

We walked many parallel paths — she had my dad at 17, and I had my first son at 17. We both had two boys. And then so much more I won’t write of now-There was something karmic and ancestral between our lives that is still playing out…

Values and Virtue
Moral cultivation and energetic integrity

A clip from:

Internal Alchemy and the Clinical Field.
The Daoist Doctor as Cultivator.

YoSan University · Doctoral Teaching Series • Taoism level 3

“Virtue isn’t just aspirational.
It’s ontological.
It’s what allows things to grow.
To stabilize.
For systems to regulate.

Right now I see this as a vertical versus horizontal axis.

Our virtue — our 德 Dé — is our alignment with the Dao. (Vertical)

And our values, our actions — horizontal:
How that pours outward.
Through the Five Phases.
Through the 10,000 things.

Our behavior as a result of our cultivation.”

Where do you tend more — the vertical or the horizontal?
Your relationship to the divine, to others, or both?

Yesterday my teen and I were eating lunch after his orthodontist appointment- and getting a weird vibe from this young girl (11-12?) who was standing watching while the man she was with was eating.

She made eye contact with us a few times but otherwise looked at the floor with her arms folded.
As they were leaving, I watched as they walked past us and behind her back-she made the hand sign.

I told my son and got up to ask to speak to an employee outside… as I did,
I made eye contact with the girl again and she made the sign again, I nodded my head, she turned around - then the employee and I both called 911.

While on the phone with 911, I watched them get into his truck to drive off- as I was giving the license plate, they asked if the truck was going north or south bound- I didn’t know as they took the neighborhood exit and then my heart skipped a beat as I realized I saw my son in his car driving past me- following them!

Police arrived minutes later and I had my son on speaker phone, flying down the highway for 15 minutes until the cops caught up-
He was sooo calm the entire time- answering all the questions- yes ma’am. No ma’am. Giving his statement of the girl seeming in distress and also witnessing the hand signal.

He used his flashers and honked when instructed when the police cars pulled between his car and their truck.
He exited and parked in the lot with multiple police vehicles. They spoke to him in person and now me on speaker as I drove with the police woman who met me at the restaurant.

We arrived to scene and I got into my son’s car to sit next to him…
I am so proud of him- the cops also were impressed with his composure and quick action.

The employees did not know about this hand sign. And that in part is why I am sharing.

Our story has been shared over 400 times on FB so I’m sharing here also to bring awareness to this signal. Many of the messages I’m receiving are that people don’t know about this signal…

I learned of this in a mandatory trafficking course for my medical license. And see it in airport restrooms internationally.

My hope is to bring awareness.

Deeply honored. 🌿
I’ve been awarded a scholarship to join the inaugural global cohort of GLO-IMPACT — a groundbreaking program bringing acupuncture into oncology care worldwide, through the IMPACT protocol developed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

This arrived in my inbox today.
Enrolled. Official. 🙏

Clinicians and researchers across the globe.
Real-world outcomes data.
Evidence-based care for people living with and beyond cancer.

This is why I do this work — presence, precision, and the profound intelligence of this medicine meeting people at their most vulnerable.

Grateful beyond words to be part of this first cohort. ✨

Level III doctoral teaching at
Yo San University.

Virtue (De) as Clinical Power.
VIRTUE CULTIVATION AND
ENERGETIC INTEGRITY
in medical practice.

Today we explored the distinction between values, virtue, and De —
and how practitioner’s state directly shapes clinical outcomes.

In Daoist philosophy, De is the coherence that arises when one’s nature is aligned.

At advanced levels of practice, technique is assumed.
The deeper inquiry is the origin of perception and personal cultivation.

A fun question arose for discussion- When insight arises in clinic, what is its source?

We examined:

• De in relation to Yuan Qi
• The Five Virtues and the Zang organs
• Character as a stabilizing force in clinical outcomes
• Cultivation and technique as inseparable in advanced medicine

This integration — philosophy, physiology, and practitioner presence — forms the foundation of The Practice of Contemplative Medicine™.

Technical mastery matters.
The quality of the practitioner’s presence shapes the field of care.

Advanced practice requires both.
