This feels like my life lately: one minute sad and deflated, then with a little bit of nourishment I am restored and ready to bloom.

Is this what faith looks like?!

I know what gratitude feels like. Thank you, family and friends, for all the nourishment. 💕🙏🏻 by @doctor_haley

My 78 yo dad is a boss!!! Here he is, mowing with the brush hog on his property in rural OR.

For comparison: I recently borrowed by neighbor’s seated mower, and I quickly hopped off and turned it over to Jacob Akin bc I was doing a terrible job. 🤣

It’s Match Week for medical students this week!!! ☘️

What does that mean? Medical students have to choose in their 3rd yr of training what specialty they want to pursue: Family Medicine, OB-GYN, General Surgery, Anesthesia, Orthopedics, Radiology, etc. Then they apply for training in this field, otherwise known as residency training.

They travel the country to interview for the coveted residency spots. My progam only had 6 spots when I applied in 2014.

The students rank their favorite spots while the programs also convene and rank the candidates. Both the students and the programs submit their rank list—picture dropping your vote into a huge Ballot box, lol— and a computer makes the final match: resident to program.

THEN, Match Week: Monday the students get an email saying WHETHER OR NOT they matched. Those who don’t match get an opportunity to quickly apply for open residency positions.

MATCH DAY, Friday: students show up to a ceremony and—in front of friends and family— open an envelope showing WHERE they matched. This represents a commitment to train at this institution, whether they’re happy about it or not.

Medical school makes us MDs or DOs, but residency makes us specialists.

It’s a brutal process. Can’t make it without our friends.

Hey friends — I would love your input!

I want to explore the different workout communities and fitness classes around the Tri-Cities — everything from Hyrox training groups to aerial/dance classes, Brazilian Jiujitsu gyms, yoga studios, running clubs… and anything else that has been imagined!!!

My thought is to visit different places, try a class, and then share about the experience so we know what’s out there.

What places do you love?! 💕
Tag a coach or gym below.

What have you heard about or want to know more about without actually having to show up for?! 😆

We have such a great community—can’t wait to share what we discover! 😃 💪🏼 🫶🏼

Snuggled up with this novel I found at Dragonfly Book Bar: forgot how much I love a good Southern gothic!! The ambiance is entoxicating… am trying SO HARD not to peek at the end—truly a toxic trait!! 😆

Anyone have advice to keep me from peeking?! by @doctor_haley

Sunday morning shenanigans: When Sharon Summerlin Sword asks to try Jacob Akin’s bread, you simply oblige the sweetest woman alive. 💓

Our first attempt making bagels—and although all the toasted sesame seeds I meticulously applied seemed to fall off with the first bite, I was otherwise quite pleased. 😆

Sharon said she felt like she was “eating at a bakery,” and Jacob said that was the best thing he’s heard all week. ❤️ by @doctor_haley

Execution of beautiful golden crust >> check of the crumb (inside: holes = good, sign of hydration level and gluten development) >> to taster.

Well done, Jacob Akin. 👏👏 by @doctor_haley

I am so tickled!!! Jacob’s amazingly talented coworker Anna Buchanan made these cake pops… in super fun shapes!!

Made me giggle when I saw what I was biting into, so yum I couldn’t stop. 🤣

Anybody need a pick-me-up??

One of Grammy’s favorite novel series was entitled All Creatures Great and Small, based on the lived stories of a rural veterinarian. Every summer I escaped into those dusty paperbacks
…
Now they’ve been made into a miniseries, and I couldn’t love it more. Have to pay to after 1st season, but it’s been worth it. Also supports PBS. 💕

A pic from our honeymoon—super crappy hotel because we were 20 yo and so so broke—and now. What a baby I married … to the sexy, confident guy who has stuck with me through all the iterations.

Feeling thankful for great genes Lorraine Akin, excellent skincare, and quitting smoking while still young (YAAY us!! 😂).

Life often feels scary and insecure, but you never do, my buddy. 💕 Jacob Akin
