Fun fact: Meteorologists say summer ends when August ends, but astronomers say summer 2026 ends on September 22nd… so, here we are, happy last week of Summer 2026 (for the Northern Hemisphere).

Amidst the end of summer, I’m reminiscing floral vibes… and it’s reminding me about the “rose thorn bud” method. I like using it for mindfulness, personal growth, team-building, and constructive conversations. I learnt this technique from a wonderful psychology professor many years ago, and now it’s become something I teach my students too. For example, for:

PERSONAL REFLECTION
—> try spending 5 minutes/day to write about your rose, thorn, bud of the day

TEAM BUILDING
—> ask each group member to spend around 1 minute each to discuss their rose, thorn, bud about the current meeting/project

It can promote perspective sharing, diverse ideas, problem solving, and collaborative atmospheres.

Try it out and let me know if you like it 🙋🏻‍♀️

This post is adapted from an old blog post of mine, IYKYK💕🌸

📝 What happens when fear prevents you from sharing your own story? Or have you ever wondered if fear prevents you from learning some parts of your own story?

Sometimes I wonder how many Kurds across the world have wanted to connect with other Kurds but felt unable due to safety concerns or fears. Some people don’t have access to freedom to say everything they wish to say. Some feel unable to share their story, or even unable to learn about their own story, due to such fears. That’s a pain that many people from various backgrounds around the world have experienced.

This poem reflects on miscommunication, unspoken words, and the ways culture and perspective can shape how we understand one another. It aims to inspire deeper perspective-taking and empathy.

This poem is dedicated to anyone who has suffered through feeling unfree, unheard, or misunderstood. I hope someday soon you can find the safety to share your story freely without fear. This poem is also a gesture of gratitude to anyone who has helped others feel safe. Thank you. Gelek supas.

My heart aches for the homeland, sending thoughts and prayers ❤️‍🩹☀️💚. Wishing for peace, safety, and human rights for Kurds and all peoples.

When my heart aches, one of the ways it tries to heal itself is through poetry and efforts to help heal others… So, here’s a poem for you — a brief moment of art that may help heal you a little bit too.

This poem’s an introduction to another poem, do you want to see that one too?

Here’s “The Prelude” 📝

Happy World Photography Day 📸
Here’s one of my favourite photographs (the first one, in particular) from the past year — it was so mesmerizing to see this scene in-person. It doesn’t always look this magical, as it only blooms like this for around 1-2 weeks per year. I couldn’t see it in time this year, but maybe next year I will see it again. Actually, next year’s goal is to have a great photo of a Kurdish town to share here.
