Aaron & Taylor in #blackandwhite.

This Sunday marks the year anniversary of Aaron & Taylor’s wedding. Their unexpected wedding venue @hollywoodpalladium was filled with warm glowing stage lights and more thoughtful & colorful design features by @lisavorce than I could ever mention. Yet it’s the simplicity of their black and white photographs that keep drawing me back in. They quiet the busy day, let you linger in the moment a bit longer and helped me create a narrative of their movement from @sunset_tower and their drive down Sunset Boulevard to the Paladium where they were surrounded by the most playful group of grandparents, parents, and friends. The various musical acts that evening carried you through the night. I left on a high of love and playfulness. Bravo to a wedding to remember @kirkbride @tkmads @lisavorce and special thanks to my collaborator @love.and.other.stories by @docuvitae

There’s not much I love more than artful photos of my kids that showcase real life and whimsy.

Photograph your teens. Preferably on film. You won’t regret it.

I’ll be in DC next week to photograph one of my favorite families as they welcome a new baby.

As a mom to a high school sophomore & senior, and watching my feed fill up with photos of friends sending their kids off to college this month, I can attest, this phase disappears in a flash, and the shoot is worth the effort.

When I work with younger kids, I tend to capture a day of play at home but with teens, I like to find an (outdoor) space they enjoy and see what unfolds.

I’m open this Sunday September 6th in DC and if you are a train ride North or South from DC, and want to work together between 9/8 -9/11, DM me. I’m organizing my trip now.

Happy Friday, friends.

If there is one thing I share the least here, it is posed group photographs. They are valuable and always a part of each wedding, but the candid moment is what makes my heart skip a beat. As a practice, I limit direction and welcome happenstance. It’s the journalist in me that is most dominant in my work.

Yet today, when looking in my archive, this image stopped me in my tracks. It was taken almost nine years ago, and I have now photographed weddings or families of four people pictured here. This extended family occupies a special place in my heart. I returned this winter to this very location (and this wooden fence survived the Palisades fire after lots of perseverance) for a maternity session. I also photographed the bride’s sister’s wedding in Santa Monica Canyon and the darling flower girl on the bottom left is now in college. I met the adult version of her last week and it took seeing this image today to realize just how much she had changed and how quickly time has passed since this wedding.

The value of the work we make isn’t always felt in the moment, nor in the weeks or months after clicking the shutter, but rather the meaning and importance of our work often reveals itself in years or decades. I’m humbled by that idea, and today I very much enjoyed lingering on these faces, and the realization that several of them now have their own chapter in my archive, too. Thank you to all my clients who appreciate my eye and share my name. I’m grateful.

Taylor & Aaron had perhaps two of the coolest LA backdrops you can imagine - starting with @sunset_tower and ending at @hollywoodpalladium

It was a treat to work with the legend @lisavorce in the #cityofangels

Fun fact: Aaron's grandfather bought this iconic hunter green 1965 #fordmustang the year it came out and it's been in his family ever since!

Happiest of happy days to @zanauctions and Brad on your one year anniversary. When the power grid went out in the entire SE corner of Wyoming three hours before your wedding ceremony I wasn’t quite sure how the rest of the day would go, but @callunaevents & @brushcreekranch delivered with a little ingenuity and extra candlelight. It was a story for the books like your romance is. I loved being a part of your weekend.

Some weddings you save for a special day, this is one of them. Arabella & Nick remind you what romance really looks like. They are an utterly charming couple, endlessly creative, and so deeply in sync that they made their first film together the week before their wedding (anyone who has planned a wedding knows just how tricky that might be). And it just got into SXSW!
