It’s been a while since we properly introduced ourselves, and there are a lot of new faces in this community lately. So: hi. We’re Nicole, Cricket, and Billy. 🐾

Dog Child didn’t start as a business. It started with a picky dog named Charlotte and a vet appointment that made me feel lost.

Charlotte wouldn’t eat. I tried everything, and eventually I started cooking for her myself. She ate. I remember standing in my kitchen feeling like I’d cracked something. Then I brought the recipe to my vet expecting a pat on the back, and instead found out how much I’d gotten wrong.

That appointment sent me into a spiral. Why was home cooking for dogs this complicated?

That question became Dog Child. The mission was simple: make home cooking simple, nutritious, and delicious. I worked with a team of canine nutritionists and vets to build it properly.

Today that means nutrient mixes, cookbooks, and step-by-step guides … everything you need to cook for your dog without guessing.

Ready to get started? Comment “COOK” and we’ll send you our free starter guide.

Now, the two who eat this food every single day.

Cricket came to us from a market in Pakistan. She was patchy, itching constantly, and I was told: medication and a prescription kibble, likely for life. I wasn’t ready to accept that as the only option. We started her on a homemade diet with lamb. The itching stopped. Her coat grew into a shiny strawberry blonde.

She gets zoomies when happy and never goes anywhere without one of her stuffed animals. She’s also, somehow, the perfect model … put a camera in front of her and she knows exactly what to do.

Billy came to us from @snookies_society as a foster dog who’d had a couple of homes. We quickly adopted him and he’s thrived on home cooked meals from day one and hasn’t looked back since. He’s the most food motivated dog we’ve ever met, which makes him our most honest taste tester. When he’s not eating, he’s chasing squirrels, and he takes that just as seriously.

At the end of the day, we all just want as many years with them as possible. ❤️
One of the simplest things you can do is add more fresh whole foods to their bowl. Even if it’s something as simple as a few blueberries.
Home cooking doesn’t have to be perfect or complicated.

If you’ve ever thought about cooking for your dog, comment “COOK” and we’ll send you our FREE Home Cooking Cheat Sheet. 🐾

I started cooking for my rescue dogs Billy & Cricket because I wanted to know exactly what was going into their bowls.

But getting started came with a lot of questions.

Am I using the right ingredients?
Is their meal balanced?
How much should I feed?
What nutrients do they actually need?

Those questions are a big part of why Dog Child exists. I’ve learned so much from cooking for Billy & Cricket, and we want to make it easier for other dog parents to get started too.

That’s why we created our Home Cooking Cheat Sheet. A simple introduction to the basics we wish we had from day one.

Comment “COOK” and we’ll send it to you. 👇

Have a picky eater? This homemade topper might be the trick 👀 Comment “PICKY” and we’ll send you the full recipe.

If your dog eats around certain ingredients, waits for something “better,” or regularly turns down their meals, sometimes adding a little extra smell and flavour can make all the difference.

This Picky Eater Dust is a simple homemade topper made with nutritional yeast and freeze-dried liver, with optional parmesan and freeze-dried fish for the dogs who need a little more convincing.

It takes just 5 minutes to make. Blend everything into a fine powder, keep it in the fridge, and sprinkle lightly over your dog’s meals.

Ingredients:
✨ 1¼ cups nutritional yeast flakes
🥩 1¼ cups freeze-dried liver powder (or crushed freeze-dried liver treats)
🧀 ⅔ cup grated Parmesan cheese powder (optional)
🐟 ⅔ cup freeze-dried minnows or freeze-dried salmon (optional)

Sometimes you don’t need to change the whole meal to get a picky eater interested. A little extra flavour on top might be all it takes.

Did you know these 4 simple ingredients turn into a high-fiber gut health topper for dogs? 🫐

This simple Blueberry Chia Pudding is made with:
🫐 Blueberries
🥣 Plain kefir
🥜 Xylitol-free peanut butter
🌱 Chia seeds

How to make it:
1. Mash the blueberries.
2. Stir in the kefir, peanut butter, and chia seeds.
3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
4. Spread onto a lick mat or serve as a topper on your dog’s meal.
