Tomorrow night, three Dogs with Wings facility dogs take centre ice. 🏒

DWW Duke, DWW Booster and DWW Jelly will drop the puck at the Winnipeg Jets' fifth annual Child Advocacy Game, alongside our partners at Toba Centre for Children & Youth: @tobacentremb .

Every day at Toba Centre, Manitoba's only child advocacy centre, these dogs offer steady, unwavering love and support to children and families on what may be the hardest day of their lives. In the past year, they supported more than 450 children and youth.

This partnership shows how far Dogs with Wings reaches: dogs raised and trained in Edmonton, changing lives in Manitoba. None of it happens without our volunteers and donors.

It takes a village. 💙

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing volunteers and staff who came out to sell Oilers 50/50 tickets at Rogers Place for the Pets of Oil Country Mega 50/50.

From gearing up in the 50/50 room to working every concourse and gate, you showed up with energy, smiles and a lot of heart. The Oilers didn’t get the win, but the night was still a success, and every ticket sold helped support Dogs with Wings Assistance Dog Society and the work we do across Alberta.

We are so grateful for each of you. We couldn’t do it without you.

Want to be part of the village? We’re always looking for volunteers, at events like this one and beyond. Learn more and sign up at dogswithwings.ca/volunteer.

Thank you to the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation for including us.

I wish I didn't have to write this post.

The need for support for victims of abuse in Alberta keeps growing. In 2023–24 (the most recent stats), Alberta's women's shelters had to turn away 31,248 people, including 12,380 children. That's the highest number ever recorded. Child advocacy centres across the province tell me they're having their busiest years yet. At the Zebra Centre in Edmonton, there's a waitlist for time with a facility dog.

Demand is outpacing supply.

I've watched what our facility dogs do. They sit beside children while they tell their story to police. They go to court with them. They give a frightened kid something steady to hold onto on the worst day of their life. Toba Centre in Winnipeg has described a child who couldn't speak to investigators, then began to open up once she was alone with the dog.

Every one of these dogs takes years and a whole community to breed, raise and train. Right now, we can't supply them fast enough.

I'm asking for your help. Help us bridge the gap. A donation, a monthly gift, becoming a puppy raiser, or simply sharing this post: all of it matters.

The full picture is in our new white paper, Bridging the Gap: Alberta's Need for Accredited Assistance Dogs, prepared by Greg Loveday, CEO.

Some moments remind us why we started. 🤍

This past weekend, we had the privilege of welcoming the incredible puppies from Dogs with Wings into our class, and it was an experience that meant so much more than puppy yoga.

These little paws are on their way to making an extraordinary difference in someone’s life. One day, they’ll become a source of independence, comfort, confidence, and companionship for someone who needs them most.

At Stretch & Fetch, we’ve always believed in the power of the human-animal connection. To us, it’s never been just about yoga or spending an hour with puppies. It’s about creating moments of joy, building community, and supporting causes that make a lasting difference.

To Dogs with Wings @dogs_with_wings , thank you for allowing us to be a small part of such a meaningful journey. And to everyone who joined us, thank you for helping us turn something we love into something that gives back.

Little paws. Extraordinary purpose 🤍 taken in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada by @dogs_with_wings

The countdown is on. Doors open in 4 hours! 💙

Dogs with Wings is proud to partner with the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre (CACAC), and proud to be part of today’s Go Blue Open House for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

CACAC brings police, child intervention, medical, mental health and victim support professionals together under one roof. Children and youth who have experienced abuse can share their story once, in a safe, child-friendly space, and get coordinated care for as long as it’s needed. Our facility dogs are part of that team. They offer calm and comfort during interviews, medical exams and court preparation.

Victim services are often where healing begins, and the need keeps growing. Every child deserves to be heard, believed and supported. That takes a community willing to stand behind the people who do this work every day.

Join us today and see the Centre for yourself:
📍 Sheldon Kennedy Centre of Excellence, #310, 70 College Circle, Red Deer
🕑 2:00 – 6:00 PM
Free family event. Wear blue!

Our puppies spent the morning on the mat at Puppy Yoga, hosted by @stretch.fetch. And really, who can resist our puppies on a yoga mat?

Every new person, sound and setting helps our future assistance dogs grow into calm, confident partners. Thank you to everyone who came out to stretch, laugh and welcome our puppies, and to the Stretch & Fetch team for making space for them.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Dogs with Wings.

This weekend we’re reflecting on how much we have to be thankful for. To our volunteers, who open their homes and hearts to raise and care for our dogs: thank you. To our donors, whose generosity makes every assistance dog partnership possible, and our sponsors, who stand with us to grow our impact: thank you. To our friends, who cheer us on and share our story, and our Board, for their guidance and commitment: thank you. And to our dogs, who remind us every day what connection and compassion look like.

We hope your Thanksgiving is filled with the people (and dogs) you love. 🍁

Meet DWW Kourt, an Accredited Facility Dog placed with Lethbridge Police Service in 2022. Her role is dedicated entirely to supporting the officers behind the badge. Much of policing is about serving the community, and Kourt is there to care for the people doing that work.

Police calls can be unpredictable and, at times, incredibly difficult. Kourt is present for the moments that often go unseen. She sits in on debrief meetings, is there after a tough call, and offers quiet support throughout the day.

Sometimes that looks like a calm, steady presence beside an officer. Other times it’s resting her head on someone’s lap, heading out for a walk, or bringing some lightness through play.

However it shows up, Kourt’s role is simple and powerful: to help officers pause, process, and feel supported.

Thank you to Lethbridge Police Service for your partnership, and for prioritizing the well-being of your members. 💙
