DOG STANDARDS TURNS 4! 💙

From the bottom of my heart, I want to say how thankful I am for every single person who has given us the honour of feeding their furry best friends.

I started dreaming up this business in 2021 when my epileptic dog Boston was struggling with his health. Through this journey I realized how misleading and toxic the pet food industry could be, and wanted to create a breath of fresh air in the industry. A business that would make feeding high quality, healthy dog food easier for pet parents.

There has been a plethora of highs and lows as a solo founder. Building a business from the ground up has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done — yet the most rewarding experience, and has changed my life.

We wouldn’t be where we are today without you so thank you times a million! Here’s to many more years of delivering the freshest meals to deserving dogs. 💙🐶

“Last year, Bentley was 83 pounds... we were still walking the same amount as we walk today but he was on kibble. We were walking 5-7 miles a day so it didn’t make any sense to me why he would be so overweight. We decided to change his food to Dog Standards gently cooked and it made the biggest difference in his weight.” — Trisha, Bentley’s mom

Bentley’s transformation is a testament to what real food can do for dog’s health — from the inside, out. 💙

October’s adoptable dog of the month is the adorable Louisa! And with October being Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, there are so many incredible dogs who are in need of adoption at our shelter partner @toronto_humane_society.

This silly gal is a bundle of joyful energy who loves nothing more than zooming through the park, playing an game of chase, and exploring the great outdoors.

Because she can be a bit shy and anxious when being approached, Louisa thrives with a patient, low-pressure approach that allows to warm up at her own pace. Once she’s out and about, she is an incredibly endearing companion who shows her affection through sweet leg-boops, walking right by your side on leash, and looking to you for direction.

Louisa can at times get super excited, but with a family ready to guide her and keep her happily active, she is going to make an incredibly rewarding and loyal best friend! 💙

To adopt Louisa visit Toronto Humane Society at 11 River Street and speak to an adoption agent. Adoption and animal viewing hours are Monday – Friday: 3:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturday – Sunday: 10:00am to 6:00pm.

Picky eating can be such a stressful experience for a dog parent — when Sophie adopted Benny he was an incredibly picky eater. Now he licks his bowl clean, and Sophie has the peace of mind knowing Benny is being nourished the way he deserves to be! 🙌🏼🥕 by @dogstandards

Walk into almost any pet store and you’ll see aisles of products for itchy skin, sensitive stomachs, bad breath, joint support, anxiety, weight management... the list goes on.

Some dogs genuinely need those things. That’s not the point. The point is that we rarely stop and ask the obvious question: Why is this happening in the first place?

Nutrition isn’t the answer to every health problem. But it is one of the first places we should be looking.

We spend a lot of time talking about supplements, toppers, probiotics, dental chews, and medications. Meanwhile, the thing going into the bowl twice a day often gets treated like it’s just... fine. That’s backwards.

We’re big believers in starting with the foundation. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to do everything overnight. Just ask better questions about what’s in the bowl before assuming another product is the answer.
