Part II: The MET Gala - Costume is Art

Those that can do no wrong, even though they failed the assignment of Costume is Art, but they looked amazing: 1. Tessa Thompson in Valentino, 2. Jasmine Tookes in Sophia Couture, 3. Laura Harrier in Di Petsa, 4. Kylie Jenner in Schiaparelli was beautiful, almost maddening, the structure was incredible, 5. The Curry’s in Balenciaga and Cartier, they are always so lovely, 6. Jaafar Jackson in Ralph Lauren - just because, a newbie to the red carpet after his stellar performance portraying his uncle, 7. Ciara in Celia Kritharioti & Russell Wilson in Brandon Blackwood, and 8. Zoë Kravitz in Yves Saint Laurent.

And to the others that showed up as gladiators, cirque du soleil, super she-roes, heroes and villains, fairytale characters, statues of liberty and london bridges… it has already been done! To all the nakedness, make it make sense, bored with it now. (To many pics to post for this category, so go to the Vogue App and reminisce.)

Costume Institute if you’re listening… 2027 theme, try Maison Margiela perhaps, a little Haute Couture and allure is what we need!

And finally to those who came just as themselves, do better at the next MET Gala if you’re invited back!

They say, art is a matter of interpretation but is it? Definitely “Fashion is Art” is slightly a bit more focused, if you’re doing it right! Who got next? 🎤

Yeah I know, it’s been a week since The MET Gala and you’ve heard nothing! 😮‍💨 Processing in Progress.

Well… there were those who understood the mission and those who were going to a cocktail party, another benefit gala or just crashed the event!

The theme this year was “Costume Art,” investigating the convergence of fashion and art. Then it goes on to say something about focusing on the dressed body as the central element connecting fashion to other art forms! What? If it takes that long to explain, things aren’t going well! 👀

The interpretation was too wide for the guests which doesn’t make for a good coffee table book. On the fence about buying it. I’ll definitely see the exhibit at least 2 more times and decide if the Costume Art book comes home. 😂 I mean, it’s still fashion.

Definitely my least favorite MET Gala theme and the execution of it! 🤷🏾‍♀️

Fashion meets art… here’s who made the cut, with little explanation needed!
1. Janelle Monáe in Christian Siriano - nothing to be said here: ✔️, 2. Emma Chamberlain in Mugler - no birds harmed, 3. Karan Johar in a Manish Malhotra creation, 4. Gwendoline Christie in Giles Deacon - she looks like a painting hanging in the MET, 5. Anok Yai in Balenziaga - the hair & makeup sealed her fate, 6. Madonna in Saint Laurent - I know what you’re thinking, like how? It’s the Black Pearl ship on her head from Pirates of the Caribbean movies that reminded me of Queens Charolette wigs that put her on the list! It’s art and it’s Madonna! 7. Teyana Taylor’s sasquatch fringe had me in shock and when she moved, she owned it, no one else could have worn such craftsmanship, oh and did I mention it’s Tom as in a Tom Ford creation. 8. Rihanna in Maison Margiela - she rarely disappoints, 9. Natasha Poonawalla in Dolce & Gabbana, 10. Chase Infiniti in Thom Browne, 11. Hoyeon in Louis Vuitton, 12. Eileen Gu in Iris van Herpen… bubbles! by @doingthemostwithmjp

Estate sale Finds!!! 🔎 There is nothing better than stumbling upon an Estate Sale, well maybe being invited to one is the ultimate! 🍽️🥂

Scored a few things: sterling silver candlestick holders, a small vintage crystal trumpet vase, 2 pairs of candlestick holders (Libbey Crisa - glass and Lady Anne - crystal), 8 vintage flower etched brandy glasses and a small vintage crystal pitcher for some kind of specialty drink or for whatever you want as long as you use your stuff!

There is always a jewel to be found! 💎

Of course I’ll be back to show you how I used my curated collectibles! 💋

About Saturday…

@RootsBotanicalBoutique 1st floral class was exceptional! This session was all about Peonies! 🌸

We started with Pastries & Prosecco and then moved right into the coursework… types of peonies, what kinds to expect in the field and how to take care for them. Professor Roots as I call her, @Vida.c also took us through our course materials… which was inside an adorable burlap tote with gloves, cutting instruments and all that was needed for a day floral excavation! You know what I mean… cutting flowers! 🤣 Yes, Peony 🌺Picking!

The time came to officially enter Peony Envy / The English Farm in Liberty Corner, NJ. I have to tell you, my classmate and I were ridiculously excited.

Once we were in the field, we received a little more coaching on how and where to cut stems, a live demonstration from our floral concierge, Vida - Professor Roots! 🤩

And then, we were off to the business of peonies! We walked, we talked, we scattered in search of the perfect flowers, we were one with nature in the fields!

A French country side moment…

It was an incredible experience, a great way to begin the Summer, to learn something new, to meet new people, get your steps in because it’s absolutely physical and enjoy some girl time!

Once we were picked out, 😮‍💨 headed back to the grass area to look at all we had gathered in the fields. Vida had buckets, ice & water to transport our peonies home!

To our surprise she created a floral arrangement on the spot with some of the peonies she picked! Yes, it was kind of spectacular! 🔥🔥🔥

The greatest task was yet to come… once we got our flowers home, using our creativity to manifest something beautiful! 🥴

It took me a day or so. I picked up some fillers / greenery to make my bouquet a bit fuller. I managed to make one big bouquet and 2 singular ones.

I was excited about my arrangements, take a look and even happier that I signed up for the class! I can’t wait for the next one! 🤗
