#IssaZakiyyahCelebration The Takeoff…and #AcademyOfCountryMusicAwards prelude ✨✨✨ I landed at the INCREDIBLE #ImJustMe brunch in honor of the legacy of inclusion that the late great #CharleyPride added to mainstream #countrymusic—it was top tier!!! Mr. Pride was a sharecropper’s son and a #Mississippian so you already know his musical, soulful roots run deep! 🙏🏾❤️🕊️ His son, #Dion and widow, Ms. #Rozene were there. #Legacy I met and hugged #TheWarAndTreaty 😱, and the host was #Breland. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 You know what was even more top tier than that?!? Seeing my #sisterfriend, @shellyshel4 being recognized by her colleagues and partners—-sooooo well deserved!!! 💚✨💚✨ I met and snapped it up with two #CountryCuties, #TierraKennedy (her voice!) and #ReysaRoberts (theee cutest)!! #BlackBirds This historical depth of #AfricanAmericans in country music is not new, but I’m so thrilled the celebration of our presence is happening in the year of 2024…8 (#newbeginnings). #OmniResorts #OmniStar #FriscoTX #ACMAwards #Amazon #PrimeVideos by @doitgurl
#IssaZakiyyahCelebration Sister Clara Muhamnad is such a VIBE!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Queen!! 🎉🥳🎉❤️ She gave birth to a nation and to #homeschooling in the #UnitedStates. She made #Quranic literacy possible for incarcerated #Muslim brothers, imprisoned for draft evasion. #SisterClaraMuhammad is a movement and an institution. I’m obsessed with her gangsta, nation-building, and beauty. Celebrate this Queen with some 🤎🤎🤎! #ClearEyes #ClearVision #GeorgiaPeach #MuslimQueen #MyDissertation by @doitgurl
#IssaZakiyyahMoment ❤️ This Star Spangled Banner ain’t never been the same Star Spangled Banner to us as it’s been to others. It never will be either. #doubleconsciousness #theveil #TheSouth #MyPeople “c’mon with yo’ c’mon!” VOTE. Repost from @blackarchives.co • Alabama (1965). #IssaZakiyyahMoment “I hope tomorrow will bring a better you, a better me.” Tevin Campbell did his thing and Quincy Jones had that ear!! You know who else does their thing? VOTERS! Whether you’re a benevolent voter or a malevolent one, your one vote will make the world of difference in someone else’s life. If you vote, HOW you vote says more about you than you’ll ever know. Maybe you care, maybe you don’t. Just know the only constant is change. 🤷🏽‍♀️ #November3rd #ElectionTuesday #Tomorrow by @doitgurl
#IssaZakiyyahCelebration They will ALWAYS get my deepest love. #MyPeople ❤️ The backbone, rib, and consciousness of America. The way he said Indianola. The way he put in the effort to find a voting station. Mississippi has some serious reckoning to do. I love to hear them talk…Sounds like my Granma, family, community, and everybody who came to the house to visit. #Alabama #CoffeeCounty #Chancellor Don’t just vote, vote with a clean heart and reasonable mind. by @doitgurl
#IssaZakiyyahCelebration Once Upon a Time in Harlem is the most important historical documentary right now. It is EXCELLENT, a beautifully shot produced, and edited curriculum on the #HarlemRenaissance —before and beyond. THANK YOU Mr. William Greaves for your vision and commitment. You captured a moment like none I’ve seen about the Harlem Renaissance ever! This film inspired and moved me so much, I took notes! The dresses and patterns were gorgeous (my style) and the jewelry…I wanted it all. Everybody’s recollections were so poignant! Man! Here is a lil piece of #VSU history that was a part of the film. Artist Romare Bearden was featured in the film. His mother, Ms. Bessye Bearden, was a graduate of Virginia Normal and Industrial Institute (THE Virginia State University today 🧡💙). It wasn’t mentioned in the film, but the VSU presence is always there. 🤗 It was equally great to see the #HBCU presence in Duke Ellington’s house as there was a degree from Wilberforce University on his wall. Every figure in the documentary was so, SO important in telling #BlackStories that preserve and expand our history. I was especially moved by Mr. Leigh Whipple because he was dynamic, but also because he was compelling. Mr. Whipple was also 96-years old when the film was shot in 1972, and his mind, voice, and acting were sharper than a needle! I learned about his accomplished parents, and that he was born on October 9, 1876. What a life! I’m so happy this film allowed me to hear his contributions to Black America in his words. Go. See. This. Film. THANK YOU, Dr. Brown for inviting us!! 💜 CONGRATULATIONS to the Greaves Family on this cinematic excellence! 🍿 by @doitgurl

#IssaZakiyyahMoment Black children. This Black boy. I saw this reel in my friend’s stories (Hey Dr. @deirdre.hollman (MDD!)) and clicked on it to take it in fully. When I first started watching it, it was 5:03AM. It is now 5:21AM on a Saturday morning. I’ve watched it that much. This is a reel posted by a mother from Chicago named #JustJazzyJazzzz , of her son’s Halloween choice. He wanted to “Be” Jesus at 6-years old. I have watched this reel so many times, struck by him coming into character when he walked through the door, students immediately lighting up with pride and joy in their recognition of their school’s “Jesus”, the “Hey Jesus!” greetings, them reaching out their hands to get a touch, “Jesus” feeling himself with that lil walk 😂😁, and especially the pure jubilee at the end of the line with all the other Black boys. 😘💙 His and his mother’s Halloween choice was less about the costume and more about his mother’s choice to ground him in a spiritual understanding, and for that understanding to be reflected and rewarded by the students’ reception of “Jesus” in their school. Powerful. These are Black children in America, and ALL of them deserve love, protection and safety from their curricula, teachers/adults, their peers, and the streets they call home. #BlackChildren 😘💙 by @doitgurl
