Highlanders! The Gordon Cine Film Series returns for its second year on Tuesday, October 27th. We will show The Bride of Frankenstein at 3:00 PM in the Student Center Auditorium at @gordon_state . Dr. Erik McCarthy will provide a brief introduction. “In the masterful sequel to the 1931 classic, the mad scientist is persuaded by a creepy doctor to create a mate for his creature to help fabricate a new race, but all doesn’t go as planned. Elsa Lanchester has dual roles as novelist Mary Shelley and the frightful fright-wig-wearing bride.” The Gordon Cine Film Series is supported by the Constance H. Chinery Performing Arts fund. by @dollyfan

I stopped at the office this morning to catch up on a few things. I opened the trunk for my umbrella and discovered a hitchhiker. taken in Barnesville, Georgia by @dollyfan

Just before I started my 2:00 class this afternoon, my phone, which I had silenced and hidden behind the lectern so students couldn't see it, started lighting up with phone calls, emails, messages, and notifications, and I immediately knew why. I ignored it the best I could regardless and kept class going for an hour before I dismissed it and finally took a look at all those notifications. The news. Friends and family of course. Colleagues, current and former. Poets and writers. But also people I hadn't seen or heard from in 20 or 25 years. Former students from way back who I hadn't seen or heard from since the last day of their class with me found my email address on my website. Old friends I hadn't seen or heard from in just as long, including some I thought, because of a disagreement or falling out, didn't want anything to do with me and so weren't in my contacts. All of the names were a complete blast from the past, and as I scrolled and scrolled memories came flooding back, and that's what was overwhelming, not the news of Dolly's death, which I had suspected for a while was coming. I haven't seen Dolly since 2019 at the Grand Ole Opry, when she did a show for her 50th anniversary as an Opry member. Getting tickets was hard because the Opry's ticketing system crashed the second tickets went on sale. But I finally snagged nosebleed seats after two hours. Better than nothing. My wife was game, even though the Opry shows were on our first wedding anniversary and I bought tickets for BOTH shows. Dolly's social media team liked and retweeted a Tweet about how we were there for our first anniversary. But I didn't see Dolly again after that. Scheduling conflicts. Life. Here's the video of the very last time I ever saw her. She closed her second show at the Opry that night with "I Will Always Love You" and "9 to 5." by @dollyfan
