And some faster moments from this week in Kona

To think two years ago I couldn’t swim a single lap in the pool. This sport has really been something I never expected. And thank goodness I never thought too deeply about what to expect, or there’s no way I would’ve gone down this rabbit hole. Sometimes naivety has positive fallout.

This sport asks so much of you, and I was so happy to spend the past few years of my life giving to it in the best way I could. The grind was addicting and rewarding. It was so fun to get caught up chasing this goal that felt silly and unreal and distant, one workout at a time.

It became a way to lean into this amazing community I’ve found in Baltimore. Thank you to anyone who’s shared some sweat and miles with me. You all helped plant these seeds in my head, move the needle of what I thought I could do, and made it fun in the process.

I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world, but take this as my formal commitment to take a break from this distance. I’m ready for more unstructured weekends, more baking, more down time, more energy to give to friends and loved ones.

There were a lot of things that didn’t go well during the race, but that was never really the point. I know I gave what I could, and then some. And crossing that finish line felt magical all the same. taken in Kona, Hawaii by @dom_elyse
