This season we had a total of 154 team practices and 154 warm-ups accordingly. Monotonous? Not necessarily.
🏀
We like to include a variety of small sided games (SSG) which might remind you of a PE class back in the days, but there’s more than meets the eye.
🏀
These games are chaotic by nature and simulate the demands of basketball in a great way. Through the use of different constraints, we promote self-organisation, decision making and creativity.
🏀
Instead of using explicit instructions, small sided games are highly variable and give athletes opportunities to experience different affordances.
🏀
And based on all the noise, excitement, and competitiveness, you have reasons to believe that small sided games must be fun as well😉

Small sided games are unique in their own way, because they are great in theory and even better in practice - a fact which I haven’t observed too much throughout my anecdotal experience of working in professional basketball until now.

SSG are very authentic in terms of game demands with chaos and unpredictability. Players need to cooperate, communicate, solve problems while moving and organising their bodies under constantly changing conditions.
🏀
From a coaching perspective SSG are easy to organise and don’t really need much of equipment. They can help enriching the athletes motor-panel via promoting variability and reducing monotony at the same time.

In my opinion, you cannot match the level of commitment and engagement from the players with any “traditional”, “scripted” warm up. We haven’t even talked about all the emotions and great atmosphere SSG create.

Because of the above mentioned qualities, SSG are a constant part of our warm ups before the start of basketball practice.

Before I forget, it is incredible how uplifting dancing can be 😉

What a week it has been in Samokov!

Happy for everyone at @rastavechta that we were able to qualify for the 2026/27 @basketballcl by winning 4 games in 6 days!

Especially proud of our players and staff for the way and what they have accomplished this past week! With everyone stepping up and leaving their mark and making this success possible while putting the team first and growing together!

We are still in the early part of the process and season, but it’s easy to say and see already that this is a special group!

Excited for the 2026/27 🏀 season and looking forward to starting our @easycreditbbl season on Thursday at the RASTA Dome!

🏀 Basketball Performance Summit 2026 – Looking Back!

Launching a new event format is nerve-wracking. As we prepared the inaugural @basketballperformancesummit in Vechta from June 11–13, we faced doubt.

Participant numbers fell short, and we questioned if our efforts would pay off. However, we held onto our vision and the exceptional speakers like Dirk Bauermann, Klaus Perwas, Alan Ibrahmagic, @rafjuc and others. We knew something special was possible.

And it was.

The smaller group fostered an intimate, open atmosphere. Participants engaged actively, turning questions into discussions. Strangers became a community united by a shared passion for learning.

This is what the Summit aims to achieve: connection, honest idea exchange, perspective challenging, and growth. Feedback confirmed participants left with new insights, relationships, and inspiration.

Behind this event were months of hard work, conversations, ideas, and uncertainty. With @marcus_lindner and @domceps , we refined the concept, making every detail meaningful. Reflecting on it, it was worth every second. Not because of participant numbers, but the quality of the experience.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all speakers, participants, partners, and supporters who believed in this idea and helped make our first Summit a reality.

🚀 Looking ahead to 2027, we’re planning Basketball Performance Summit 2027 with the goal of bringing even more people together through a broader cross-sport and cross-disciplinary approach.

What an incredible weekend of learning, sharing ideas, building connections, and growing the game together.
