Today marks 365 days since i first injured my left knee. 1 year later, i sit re-injured, with 11 dread laiden days until I go under the knife again. But as I watch my UOSnow family load Skyliner, on the Sunday of our cabin trip, i'm filled first with burning motivation; a feeling garnished with gratitude for the endlessly supportive people around me.

So what happened? After 8 committed months of recovery and rehabilitation following a Bridge Enhanced Acl Restoration (BEAR) procedure (blah blah), i was strong, confident, and slowly but surely finding my footing back on hill. I had not yet been "cleared for sport", but saw that my hard work in the gym warranted me cruisin groomers and keeping my feet on the ground. So on a Saturday in late january, I was up at Willy P for a staff training with the UO Outdoor program. Feeling great all morning, a long lunch left the legs stiff. In my warm up run for the afternoon, I dropped into the wiggle line below the lift, and flowed through it smoothly. but in the run out, quads burning, i hit a lip that my lefty couldnt handle. One painless pop, and I knew it was gone...

Devastated.

The few months since then have been chopped up with doctors visits and MRI machines, more than a few crash outs, and empathy felt with those who've walked, or are walking a similar road. Navigating the convoluted hoops of our medical system has my momma and I at our wits' end. But! im on the schedule now (May 2nd🤞) with a doc who has our utmost trust. i'm 'pre-habing' hard, getting my body as resilient as possible while trying not to worsen my condition, before my nerves are blocked, tendons are harvested, bones are bored with tunnels, and ligaments are fixed (acl, medial meniscus). Though terrified by another invasion of my body, im equal parts grateful for the skills and technology available to me as a patient, and fascinated by the possibility of regaining my athletic ability.
