I was made aware a great customer of mine posted awesome photos my ceramics with his plants and wrote a thoughtful write up of my work on his LinkedIn account. Thank you Brian P. Russell if you see this post on Instagram and or Facebook.

Here is his write up if you can't see the forth image in this post:

There are mushrooms living in my houseplants.

Small, painted figures tucked among the leaves, each with its own expression and personality. They were made by Donald L. Patten, a prolific local artist I seem to encounter at nearly every craft fair.

He’s usually surrounded by mushrooms.

Painted mushrooms. Mushroom drawings. Small mushroom figures waiting to find a home among someone’s plants.

Donald hustles.

He says hello to the people passing by. He mentions that the figures and drawings are all new. He’s always smiling, even when people keep walking.

But stop and ask about his inspiration, and you can see his imagination switch on.

He’ll tell you about foraging and the fanciful characters he imagines.

Donald makes new work. He brings it where people can find it. He starts conversations. Then he goes home and makes more.

I appreciate the lesson in that:
Keep creating.
Keep showing up.
And don’t lose the joy that made you begin. by @donald.patten

About The Artist:
Donald is an artist from Belfast, Maine. He has recently graduated from the University of Maine at Augusta with a bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts. An accomplished multimedia artist, Donald has exhibited his work in gallery spaces in Bangor and across Maine. He participates in multiple art fairs around the Mid-Coast region of Maine during the summer and winter seasons. He works as a part-time figure drawing coordinator for the figure drawing group at Waterfall Arts in Belfast, Maine. As an artist, he currently produces illustrative oil paintings, charcoal figure drawings, graphite illustrations, and ceramic sculptures. His future plans are to enter a Master of Fine Arts program in the near future to become a professor of drawing and painting.
