One of my students and I have been obsessed with @lizzymcalpine 's latest album 🥰😍 And now that I finally have the chance to record some acoustic guitar, I couldn’t resist recording a little snippet!

P.S. I definitely need to work on my mic placement… realized that a little too late hahaha by @donbluesman

💿 “BIRTHDAY” LIVE SESSION — THIS SATURDAY ON YOUTUBE!

📅 Saturday, October 17 at 12 PM (Halifax time)

💜 Subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don’t miss it! Link in bio!

Our studio recordings have lots of effects and layers (which we LOVE!), but this time we wanted to try something different: a stripped-down version of “Birthday” to show you what the song sounds like without all those extra elements.

We recorded it on a warm, cloudy day near Porters Lake, working with Modern Philharmonic @modern.philharmonic and Downbeat Media @downbeatmedia to bring this session to life.

A huge thank you to Bev for letting us use this beautiful space! The lake was gorgeous, the atmosphere was magical, and the mosquitoes were absolutely WILD after sunset. 🦟😂

Can’t wait to share this little piece of that day with you! 💜 taken in Halifax, Nova Scotia by @donbluesman

Today, September 23, we are releasing “Birthday,” the second single from our upcoming album Volition 💜 plus a homemade music video I (Maca) edited with the lyrics so you guys can sing if you want 📝

“Written by Macarena Carreño on her first birthday after moving to Halifax, “Birthday” uses the end of summer and the arrival of winter as a metaphor for a relationship reaching its end”.

Instead of us saying
“ “Birthday” is a spare, cinematic art pop song that blends ...” go listen to it! and tell me how you like it 💜

This is kind of a weird song to sing on my birthday, but it’s also a very real one.

I wrote “Birthday” on my first birthday in Halifax, during a time when I felt trapped, lonely, and very far from home.

But the song isn’t really about winter, or even about birthdays.

It’s about realizing that something you love has reached its end. About feeling alone beside someone. And about finding the courage to let go when you know you can’t stay where you feel unseen.

Maybe endings and birthdays aren’t so different after all.

“Birthday” will be released on September 23, if you’d like to support, please presave link in bio 🩵🌊
