Africa’s creative industry is at a steep growth point, with a heightened need for supportive infrastructure, and Lagos’ music industry is a vibrant contributor to Nigeria’s economy and cultural identity.

However, many artists and professionals face challenges related to business development, intellectual property management, digital distribution, and international market access.

To address these gaps and highlight the importance of strong Intellectual Property protections and enforcement, the U.S. Consulate General Lagos, in collaboration with the U.S. Mission in Geneva, alumni of the USG-sponsored American Music Mentorship Program (AMMP), leading Nigerian music organizations, the U.S. Patent and Trade Office (USPTO), the Nigerian Council for Arts and Culture, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the Music Economy Development Initiative (MEDI), organized and successfully executed a three-day regional workshop in Lagos.

The event showcased the American IP model as the “Platinum Standard” for economic prosperity, demonstrating that strong, U.S.-style IP protections are a catalyst for growth.

What a time we had!

We were also blessed to have the Head of the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, Consul General Brandon Hudspeth, Senior U.S. government representative for southern Nigeria at our event!!!

Truly grateful for such a huge opportunity entrusted on the AMMP team, we can’t thank you enough!!! @usinnigeria @uspto

Special shoutout to these magnificent guys and the body that linked us!!!

Out of 8.2 billion people across 195 countries, only 3,900 were invited to join the Recording Academy in 2025.
I’m incredibly honored to now be part of this prestigious and highly selective group of global music professionals.

🎉 Your favorite artists are officially part of the Recording Academy. Nearly 3,600 music creators — including artists, songwriters, producers, composers, and engineers — have joined the 2025 New Member Class. That means they can now vote for the #GRAMMYs and help shape the future of music.

↪️ This year’s class is 49% women, 56% People of Color, and 60% under 40 — representing the diverse, genre-spanning voices shaping the industry today.

🎶 The GRAMMYs aren’t just given — they’re earned, voted on by music makers, for music makers. And now, your favorites are in the room where it happens. Welcome to the Academy! #IAmTheAcademy taken in The Temple Company by @donfasho

It is so amazing to be nominated and then selected to be one of the few participants from Africa for the AMMP Academy!

AMMP is a centerpiece of the Secretary’s Global Music Diplomacy Initiative, which launched in September 2023. A partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the Recording Academy.

AMMP is empowering international, music industry professionals by brinigng us to the United States for mentorship and networking opportunities, with the aim of cultivating a professional, local music industry ecosystem to support creative talent and to strengthen the creative economy globally. It will leverage the networks and experience of Recording Academy professionals and members to provide international participants mentorship opportunities, boost their technical skills, and build a foundation for professional networks.

It is a huge privilege and also a great opportunity to be among great minds that have a common goal to contribute and grow the African entertainment industry on a global scale.

Brace yourself…Africa is about to be Templified!!!

It was such a great privilege to be one of the panelist at the just concluded U.S. Consulate Creative Commerce Panel on
Connecting U.S. and Nigerian Talent, Technology, and Business UNILAG Window on America. This event was held the greatest and most prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG). The panel was extremely informative, engaging and inspiring and had a lot of interesting people share their vast experience and knowledge with the audience. Got to meet young, talented and passionate people, the present and future is looking good!

Thank you very much for sharing this opportunity with me. It’s always a pleasure to be part of your journey to making a positive impact in our communities, sectors and ecosystem @usinnigeria . Looking forward to more!
