Another @vogue editorial piece- If you’re familiar with my work, you know fashion editorials are my favorite kind of art to create! 🩵I’m making less and less digital art each day and this is the most fulfilled I’ve felt in a long time!! This digital cleanse is so far out of my comfort zone and sharing it online is even scarier. Every time i sit down in front of a magazine or a canvas i freeze for a second out of discomfort, but once i start, it all flows so easily! This is my day one vs my one day. It took me three years to finally get started and then three more years to finally see some progress! Have a look at what three years of not giving up can look like! The little girl in the first photo wanted one thing: to be an artist.Somewhere along the way, I stopped believing that dream was realistic, so I took detours. I went to business school, worked in fashion, became a photographer, started businesses, built a career, and followed paths that seemed more practical.But the dream never left.No matter which direction I tried to run, every detour somehow led me closer to my truth. Looking back, I can see that all the twists and turns weren’t taking me away from the dream they were leading me back to it.I’m so grateful I finally stopped fighting it and started listening. I think little me would be sooo excited to grow up and become me today. by @donna_adi

Two years ago, I walked into my new painting studio thinking my experience as an artist would give me a head start.What I didn’t realize was how much there was to learn. Proportion, human form, color mixing, color theory, perspective, portraits, anatomy, drapery, glass, metal, light, edges, brushwork.The list never ends.I secretly thought talent would carry me further. Instead, I’ve learned that skill, practice, passion, and commitment do most of the work.Two years in, I’m still a beginner.But for the first time, I can see the progress and there’s nothing more satisfying and motivating❤️ by @donna_adi

Swipe to see the ugly stages as I push through the ugly parts of this to get to the good part!! >> One of the biggest adjustments I’ve had to make moving from digital art to painting is learning to slow down. I used to finish pieces in a day. Now I spend weeks…or months on a painting. I’m learning how to make mistakes that take days to fix, how to be humbled by being a beginner again, and how much growth happens when you care enough about something to keep showing up even when progress feels painfully slow.It’s already been 2 months working on this collection, and while it’s taking far longer than I imagined, I’m incredibly proud of where it’s going.The collection explores the objects we attach meaning to, the things we believe might bring us happiness, beauty, success, or belonging.Thank you for being here and letting me share this journey with you. 🤍The Pursuit of Happiness … work in progress. by @donna_adi

Painting the bouquet for The Pursuit of Happiness. I became obsessed with Dutch Golden Age flower paintings while working on this collection because they were never really just about flowers. They were about longing. Beauty. Status. Desire. The things people hoped might make them feel something…be something. What I love most is that some of these bouquets were made up of flowers that could never naturally bloom together at the same time. They were these curated fantasies pretending to feel effortless.And honestly… it reminded me so much of the world we live in today. The way we romanticize objects. The way we attach meaning to beautiful things. The way we convince ourselves happiness might be waiting on the other side of finally getting them.But underneath all that beauty was always this quiet reminder that nothing lasts forever. Flowers fade. Trends fade. Even the feeling fades eventually.I think that tension became the heart of this collection for me. The realization that centuries change, the objects change… but human desire stays strangely the same. by @donna_adi
