It just so happens I’ve read two terrific books in a row about women who have been in long term marriages that suddenly combust and they find themselves alone. I had no idea what @victorialhannan ‘s ‘I Love the Whole World’ was about, I was just attracted by the title. In it we accompany Leslie on a journey to Las Vegas (a trip she wins) and a journey back to herself as she reflects on her marriage and the person she became within it. Beautiful and uplifting.
@sally.piper.author ‘s Tina in People Like Us, on the other hand, is down on her luck. She is forced to move into a caravan park and work two dead-end jobs to make ends meet. Achingly real, but not without humour though, with a cast of perfectly rendered characters who made me laugh out loud. A thrutopian novel for our times - this story is sadly too common as economic collapse continues to unfold.

Heading back to Brisbane tomorrow so thought I would spend the afternoon hanging out with angels and poets, as it might be a while before I get back to Sydney. Scroll to the end to see the graves of three of Australia’s more famous poets. I was actually doing research for a scene in book four. When I was a young 20 something Waverley Cemetery was one of my favourite haunts.

This book sucker punched me. I can’t stop thinking about it. What a life. What a read. I was lucky enough to meet @carlyjaymetcalfe briefly in 2024 at the Brisbane Writers Festival and she was a shining light. I immediately thought’I need to read that woman’s book!’ Forgive me Carly for taking so long to get to it.

Nepal, my heart is aching for you. Many years ago, when I met my life partner, we hiked your Annapurna trails. Years later we were privileged enough to return with our children- to share with them your beauty, not only in your landscape but mostly your people. Nepalese people, generally, are some of the kindest, most generous souls I’ve met. If you have any money to spare please donate to the Save the Children Fund.

Before I was a writer I was an actress (mainly stage) and at the recent @wordsonthewaves festival I dared to get up again and read/perform something at their Late Night Lit event. Let me tell you friends, it has been a long time since I’ve tread the boards, but I had such fun, I’m coming back— this Thursday @bartotoettalong I’ve pasted the link to book in my linktree.

Today I’ve been dreaming about the day I arrived in the land of my ancestors and burst into tears from a sense of full body recognition and longing while at the same time feeling like a total stranger. I became aware of a tear in the fabric of me.
