Finally, I wanted to chat about roughs to final artwork. Starting final artwork for this book was perhaps the biggest challenge. I knew I wanted to work in a different way to usual, and I had an idea in my mind of how the artwork might look and feel but putting it down on paper was a whole different thing! I used lots of different materials – coloured inks, watercolour, gouache, coloured pencils and pastels – and I sort of felt my way through each piece of artwork. Some spreads I just threw myself in and they came together intuitively, others I did thumbnail colour tests and scanned in lots of textures to overlay in Photoshop. It was quite an experimental process. But once I had done a few pages, I felt more confident and the second half of the book came together more easily. I’m really proud of how far I pushed myself with the artwork on this one. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙙 is out now, and I hope you all love it! Click the link in @flcbooks to buy a copy! I took three children to paint the @shelfeditions bookshop window. I’ve got lots of lovely bookshop events happening in January in the North of England. Come and say hello, get a book signed or bring a little one to a storytime event 📚😊 (enjoy these photos from events last year when I was trying to hide my very large baby bump from socials!)20th Jan- Darling Reads, Wakefield. I will be decorating the window throughout the day followed by storytime in the shop at 3:45pm @darlingreadsbooks22nd Jan- Children’s Bookshop, Huddersfield. I will be painting the window in the afternoon. @lindley_books27th Jan- Kemps on the corner, Wetherby.I will be painting the window throughout the day and doing a storytime in the shop 3:30-4pm.
