We pulled up to @aromerestaurants Caribbean fusion built by Sophia Adisson, who learned everything from her mother’s kitchens back in Haiti. Griot, oxtail, snapper, plantain... food that crossed an ocean and never lost its soul.

We walked into African Village Restaurant and found exactly what the name promised a home away from home.

Fufu. Cassava leaves. The smell of West Africa in the middle of Texas.

This is what the diaspora built. Not for tourists. For us. For the feeling of sitting at your grandmother’s table thousands of miles away from home.
