NEW STURGEON BAY COMMUNITY FRIDGE OFFERING FREE FOOD AROUND THE CLOCK

Door County Mutual Aid (DCMA) recently installed the Full Hearts Fridge, a community refrigerator in front of The Pearl of Door County at 143 3rd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay. The fridge is accessible 24/7 and provides access to perishable food.

The plan is to have a regular rotation of volunteers who will be responsible for keeping the fridge clean and making sure its contents remain fresh and in-date. In addition to donations from community members, DCMA has also partnered with restaurants in the area, including Drömhus, Elmo’s Pizza, and Get Real Cafe, among others, to divert extra food to the fridge.

HAUNTED TALES FROM ROCK ISLAND

The Pottawatomie Lighthouse is a hotbed for spooky experiences, according to Friends of Rock Island President Tina Jacoby, especially for those tour guides and maintenance workers who are on the grounds long after visitors have returned to the mainland or their campsite for the night.

The original structure was built in 1836 and replaced just 22 years later in 1858, and while it has been restored, the Friends group has never added electricity or plumbing, giving the entire area a real old-world feel.
