next goal is books list (read more) • my writing unobscured by drawings: I have always felt insecure at the sheer amount of movies I have not seen. Growing up, I was not very adventurous and preferred countless rewatches (much to my parents enjoyment) to a new cinematic experience. Sometimes the structured viewing of movies in group or class settings, made me resentful. But this year I focused on revisiting my relationships with pastimes, and that includes the mending of movie watching. Letterbox initially seemed like a fun idea to encourage movie watching, but I got overwhelmed at the social aspect of it, the pressure to add friends, and write a perfect witty review every time. I still wanted a way to document the films I was watching, and thus returned to the humble notes app list. I don't really go to the movies anymore, they're expensive and with every thing going on in my life, it isn't a priority. But if doing this list taught me anything, it's that I'm still a damn movie enjoyer! At the end of the year, seeing all my movies in one long list of course made me want to find connections and patterns between them. In 2025, it was important for me to see movies I really wanted to see. Not to force myself to watch them because everyone else was seeing them. So no Wicked, Marty Supreme, Avatar 3. It felt extremely indulgent to watch a movie by myself. And it turns out (to nobody's surprise) the movies I really wanted to see were all queer. My top 5 movies this year all embodied queer aesthetics, narratives, values. Losing bodily autonomy, heartbreak, and persisting despite less than ideal circumstances. Movies untouched by the existence of Al, and all made by human beings with individual lived experiences. (Sensational) it's a fucking scary time we are living in but if watching movies did anything for me this year, it's that queer people make beautiful art will will continue to do so. by @doozical
