Chad Muska - Muskabeatz (2003)
Who would have thought that one of the most influential skateboarders of all time also had a serious ear for hip-hop production? Chad Muska, legendary skater and founder of 1212 Records, proves exactly that with his debut album "Muskabeatz." 🔥

For this project, Muska assembled an absolute all-star cast: Ice-T, Flavor Flav, KRS-One, Biz Markie, Raekwon & U-God of Wu-Tang Clan, Guru of Gang Starr, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, MC Lyte, Grandmaster Melle Mel, and Jeru the Damaja — all legends showcasing their skills over Muska's beats.

The whole thing was recorded in 2002 in a converted hotel room at the SoHo Grand in New York — no major label, no radio payola, no big-studio money. Instead: DIY spirit, niche marketing through skate and BMX shops worldwide, and a dose of street credibility you simply can't buy.

The production is raw, unpolished, and authentic — "definitely not Abbey Road-approved," as the saying goes.

Raekwon opens the album with an oriental-tinged track that would make RZA proud.

Biz Markie raps over pounding bass, calling himself "iller than Godzilla." Special Ed delivers a surprisingly crisp flow, and Guru shines over slap-funk beats.

Of course, there are weaknesses too: some tracks feel inconsistent, and not every collaboration hits equally hard. But that's exactly what makes "Muskabeatz" so charming — it's honest, passionate, and driven by Muska's vision of bridging hip-hop and skateboarding culture.

This album is a cultural milestone: skateboarder meets old-school hip-hop, far outside the mainstream machine. If you care about the intersection of these two worlds, "Muskabeatz" is essential listening.

Thank you so much for this record. ♥️

🌧️ Evidence – The Weatherman LP (2007)

When people talk about modern Boom Bap, this one always deserves a mention.

The Weatherman LP isn’t loud or flashy – it’s subtle, introspective, and real.

Evidence paints gray skies with his words, mixing raw emotion with calm precision. The production (by Alchemist, Evidence, and more) feels cold, dusty, and cinematic – the sound of rainy city nights and endless thoughts.

No gimmicks, just heart and bars.
A timeless piece of honest hip hop — perfect for late-night train rides or cloudy afternoons with your vinyl spinning.

Standout tracks: “Mr. Slow Flow”, “All Said & Done”, "Chase the Clouds away", "A Moment In Time",
“I Still Love You”
Real hip hop doesn’t age.

A masterpiece 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Jin aka The Emcee delivers with “Presents The Emcee’s Properganda” a no-compromise statement album, torn between underground hunger and the search for identity.

Instead of Ruff Ryders gloss you get raw boom-bap joints where he proves why his name deserves to be mentioned in any “Top 5 (Dead or Alive)” conversation.

The tracks sound deliberately rough and independent – not every beat hits perfect, but Jin makes up for it with technique, hunger, and sharp writing.

Songs like “Mr. Popular”, “Top 5” and “G.O.L.D.E.N.” merge battle energy with reflective moments and a good dose of humor, perfectly matching his image as a nimble-tongued emcee.

You can feel the break from the major-label era: less hype, more heart, more hand-crafted feel.

For me, “The Emcee’s Properganda” isn’t a polished classic, but an underrated chapter in Jin’s catalog that shows how seriously he takes the word emcee.

If you’re into mid-2000s underground vibes, technically strong bars, and slightly rugged but honest production, this is a record you definitely need to spin at least once.

This ist one from my fav records so a damn dope emcce and so underrated. ♥️

🍻 Tha Alkaholiks – 21 & Over (1993)

A West Coast classic packed with raw energy, funky samples, and slick wordplay.

The Liks’ debut is a straight-up celebration of 90s Hip-Hop — punchy production from E-Swift, bars full of humor and style, and that undeniable party vibe that never feels forced.

Tracks like “Make Room” and “Only When I’m Drunk” capture that perfect mix of fun and skill — proving the crew could wild out and still keep it lyrical. 21 & Over isn’t just a drinking anthem on wax; it’s a love letter to Hip-Hop culture and crew unity.

Aceyalone – Love & Hate (2003)

An underrated gem from the early 2000s underground scene. Love & Hate is a true concept album — Aceyalone dives deep into the dualities of life, blending raw emotion with razor-sharp lyricism.

The production balances soulful samples, warm Boom Bap grooves, and experimental touches that match his poetic delivery perfectly. What stands out most is the emotional range — one moment introspective and honest, the next full of energy and defiance.

This isn’t a party record; it’s one to listen to, to think with. A reminder that hip hop has always been about depth and meaning when in the right hands.

For those who value substance over hype, this one’s essential.

🎧 Favorite aspects: the storytelling and the soulful yet gritty soundscape.

🇸🇪 “Remember” by Professor P & DJ Akilles is a modern boom bap statement that feels like a love letter to the golden era without sounding dated.

The album is tailor-made for anyone who lives for soul samples, head-nod drums, and technically sharp raps. From the first track you can tell this is all about craft – dense rhyme patterns, a clear and confident delivery, classic song structures, and razor-sharp cuts that echo 90s East Coast vibes with Scandinavian precision. Lyrically, it’s heavy on rap-about-rap and nostalgia, but never in a corny “back in my day” way; it’s more a respectful look back while proving real Hip Hop is still fully 2020s-ready.

The production is warm, sample-driven, and detailed: thick basslines, soulful chops, and cinematic moods make it an easy front-to-back listen, whether you’re on a train with your hood up or walking home at night.

Guest appearances from the underground blend in naturally and amplify the international boom bap feel instead of sounding forced.“Remember” doesn’t try to reinvent the genre – it reminds you why you fell in love with rap in the first place and stretches that feeling across a whole tracklist.

If dusty loops, real DJ cuts, and an MC who values technique over trends are your thing, this one belongs both in your collection and in heavy rotation.

🇺🇸 The High & Mighty – Home Field Advantage (1999)

A slept-on underground gem straight out of the Golden Era. Mr. Eon & DJ Mighty Mi bring that raw East Coast flavor — heavy sample chops, razor-sharp punchlines, and pure cypher energy.

Tracks like “B-Boy Document ’99” and “Dirty Decibels” show how fearless and witty their approach was — no mainstream polish, just skill and grit.

The guest lineup (Mos Def, Cage, Kool Keith, Eminem Evidence & more) seals its cult status.Sonically, it’s gritty, moody, and sample-driven — tailor-made for heads who crave dusty Boom Bap and clever wordplay.

One of those joints that ages like crate dust and vinyl crackle.

🔥The cover? 100% late-90s attitude — clean, raw, and authentic.

🎧 Verdict: An underrated milestone that bottled East Coast realness — raw, witty, and timeless.

Upfront MC comes raw and honest on “Upfront & Personal,” a boom bap-heavy statement that shows exactly why Split Prophets have been one of the strongest UK crews for years.

Across the tracklist he moves from hard battle verses to more thoughtful moments, always sounding hungry and technically sharp on the mic.

Dusty samples, piano and brass loops, and gritty drums create that classic Bristol vibe that feels like cigarette smoke, cheap beer, and packed basement shows. Upfront’s flow stays laser-precise, full of heavy punchlines and images that stick in your head like graffiti on a train.

The whole record plays like an unfiltered behind-the-scenes look: no gloss, no sugarcoating, just an MC laying out his life, his city, and his crew – truly “upfront & personal.”

If you’re into UK underground, boom bap, and authentic storytelling, this album belongs both in your vinyl collection and in your daily rotation.
