DORALY GILL - cellist

Doraly is a cellist currently studying under Hannah Roberts at the Royal Academy of Music for a Performance Masters. She was awarded a scholarship of study by the Royal Academy as well as the opportunity to pursue a second study in singing. For her undergraduate degree, Doraly studied Music at the University of Cambridge, during which time she was principal cellist of the Cambridge University Orchestra and performed prominent solo works with orchestra including Tchaikovsky’s Rococo variations, Dvorak’s cello concerto and Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante with Margaret Faultless. She performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the Whittington Music Festival and is a member of the St Endellion Summer Festival cello section. In 2025 she received first prize at the North London Festival D’Addario String competition and in 2026 was a finalist in the North and East London Young Musician of the year Competition. Doraly has been recognised for her performance of music for cello and voice and has premiered five new works specifically written for her at music festivals such as Whittington and St Endellion, the Kaznowski lecture recital series and the Royal Academy Student Create festival.

Doraly will play in @flollloyd 's BROKEN IVY and in @ruben.doda 's FENCE OFF! Part of Tête À Tête: The Opera Festival 2026.

Some highlights from my recital ‘ASYLUM’ that I performed as part of the Royal Academy’s Student Create Festival in January 🎻🎶

This project was my response to the rise of public animosity towards refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
I wanted to create a programme that reflected the journeys of asylum seekers throughout history - from the experiences of Hungarian and Jewish refugees from my own family, to Syrian refugees who are forced to make the treacherous journey across the Mediterranean Sea.

Joined by the wonderful @_daniel.liu on piano, with pieces by @zoemartlew , @sarah.henderson.music , @l.zucchi47 , Henryk Gorecki and more. 🌊 by @doraly_gill

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this fountain to fountain walk, mum and I managed to raise over £500! All for such a good cause :)))

A massive thank you to the the Susanne Beer Cello Corner Foundation and the @chsunconcerts for giving me the opportunity to play the last movement of the Elgar cello concerto on their livestream concert tonight. It was such a lovely experience and so important to me in a time when performance and musical opportunities are so rare. Thank you for enabling me to keep music alive. #helpkeepmusicalive Doraly :) by @doraly_gill

I told u we’d do the full one :) thank you for all your lovely comments and support for our little cello jingles. It’s been so nice to be able to come out and speak to all our neighbours through this tough and quite scary time and uniting together in our deep appreciation and thankfulness to our wonderful NHS. I hope u enjoy this last performance of David Bowie’s ‘Life On Mars’ 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️ by @doraly_gill

Today we went for a chilled vibe with the groovy ‘girl from Ipanema’ (shout out to my music a level class 😉) to bring everyone together outside to appreciate the amazing NHS 👏👏👏.

Due to various neighbourly requests we decided to do David Bowie’s LIFE ON MARS to show our appreciation for the NHS. However due to very little practice we were only able to show you the last bit so 🤞u can hear the full thing next week!! Sending everyone lots of love and stay safe ❤️❤️❤️ by @doraly_gill
