I made a dress for my friend recently. She was worried it wouldn’t turn out well—but it did, just like I told her it would. Funny enough, before that moment, I didn’t even believe in myself. So let me tell you the story behind the confidence I’m gradually growing into. I’ve been sewing since I was little—starting from stitching tiny baby pieces, to mending my own clothes, to my elder sister insisting that we sew our outfits ourselves once she cut them. Oh yes, it runs in the family. My mum is a certified tailor. My sister took it up and rebranded it into Fashion Designing, building her brand MH Seams. (Meanwhile, my mum used to make “grow-into” clothes for us as kids—oversized! And my sister said, “No more of this,” and took matters into her own hands! 😂) As for me, I just wanted to be useful—especially at a time when admission wasn’t forthcoming. So I leaned into it. She taught me everything I know, and she’s still tutoring me. The support… the push… the consistency… Even in moments where I doubted myself, they believed for me. So to anyone out there feeling like you’re wasting away because things aren’t working out yet— God has His ways. Look around you. There is purpose even in the waiting. And by the way, I am now a business owner under the fashion brand MH SEAMS. This isn’t just a skill for me. It’s a Legacy. A Mandate.
