Aus dem Koffer + vernetzt Zeichnerinnen und Zeichner und stärkt die Sichtbarkeit des Mediums in der zeitgenössischen Kunst. Im Zentrum steht die unmittelbare Begegnung mit den Arbeiten sowie der Austausch zwischen Publikum und Beteiligten. Aus dem Koffer + erprobt alternative Formen der Präsentation jenseits der klassischen Ausstellung. Die Künstlerinnen und Künstler der Organisationsteams in Berlin, Hamburg und Köln laden Kunstschaffende ein und stellen jeweils einen Koffer mit Zeichnungen zusammen. Mit diesen Koffern reisen sie an unterschiedliche Orte und zeigen dort die Werke. Dazu gibt es erstmals eine Präsentation mit Zeichnungen Düsseldorfer Künstlerinnen und Künstler. Die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Medium Zeichnung, das in der Ausstellung Uncertain Maps eine zentrale Rolle spielt, soll durch die Einladung von Aus dem Koffer + vertieft werden.

Confronted with the peculiarities of the situation during the first lockdown in 2020, I found myself outside my usual working environment and began to re-examine existing themes in my work using whatever resources were immediately at hand.

Using plants, fruit, vegetables and other organic materials gathered in woods, gardens, green spaces or during visits to the supermarket, I produced dyes and worked with them on paper. Over time, they fade and change in ways that cannot be predicted or controlled, alluding to processes of transience and impermanence.

Formally, the works build on earlier series exploring repetition, temporality, and shifts. The cuts along the dried edges of the paper suggest an attempt at fixation and control. At the same time, the materiality of the works reflects the experience of a period marked by uncertainty and instability. They negotiate the tension between transience and permanence, unpredictability and the desire to exert influence.

Esther Glück uses a scalpel to make razor-thin cuts: images of nature or interiors interchange with drawings of nudes cut into white or black paper. The work constitutes ingenious play with the picture space, with lines and surfaces, concealment and emergent visualization, with the human figure’s presence and absence.

In her paper-cuts and drawings, Dorthe Goeden investigates the ambivalence of nature and culture, of unchecked growth and order. She is interested in the everyday, the ephemeral and the incidental, as well as in naturally emerging and culturally developed structures. Fragile linear networks emerge between abstraction and representation.

Ulrike Heydenreich is fascinated by the longing for untouched nature. Symbolic of this longing are the unspoiled, snow-covered alpine landscapes in her photorealistic drawings: beautiful and impressive, powerful and endangered at the same time. Her collection of alpine artefacts as well as early 20th-century black and white photographs of high alpine landscapes provides the starting point for drawings, collages and foldings.

Art in Architecture Competition Entry

New building for the State Mobility Authority of Rhineland-Palatinate (LBM), Cochem

My design focuses on the space itself, to which the LBM and its employees are dedicated from the perspective of mobility. Like an unfolded road map or an opening, tilted planning field, the line drawing generates spatial depth and visually extends into the building. The design creates references, integrates junctions, and allows networking to emerge: it symbolizes the search for planning solutions to mobility-related policy challenges.

The lines emerging from the façade in a gentle curve take up a second traffic planning aspect. All mobility-related planning must consider environmental factors, animal habitats, geological conditions, and more, while remaining open to compromise. It should adapt to the needs of the people who live in or visit the region.

The highly visible intervention on the building’s façade creates a dynamic visual space that bridges and mediates between the surrounding environment and the activities of the LBM and its employees.
