Y’all. I’m so grateful I could cry. I sat in the park and wrote poems on my phone. Watched dogs and babies play in the dirt. I rolled to a cafe and ordered myself a black iced coffee and a biscuit with jam and butter and sat in the sun. I saw my neighbors on their way home from work. I was able to enjoy movement on a beautiful day without excruciating full-body effort. Independent mobility is a privilege you probably don’t know you have.

The joystick is sensitive, and I feel a bit like a reckless driver still. I used 2/5ths of my battery roaming the neighborhood. My past selves in various modes hid behind the traffic signs along the crooked sidewalks and watched me go with pride. This journey never seems to end, never does end, but I’m squeezing the hours like grapefruits.

Season 6, Episode 4: In Conversation with Rose Dallimore

I am honored to welcome Rose Dallimore, a restorative practitioner, writer, artist, and activist living with complex chronic illnesses, including rare spinal conditions and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

In this episode, Rose shares her journey through chronic pain, complex diagnoses, and two major spinal surgeries that changed her mobility and quality of life. We talk about navigating healthcare as a woman, the ways chronic pain is often dismissed, and what it means to advocate for yourself when the answers aren't always clear.

Rose also opens up about her work in advocacy, art, and mutual aid, including the Our Body Justice Project, and why sharing our stories can become a powerful form of survival, connection, and change.

Rose's story is a powerful reminder that we don't have to suffer alone, and that finding your voice can create space for others to be heard.

Being disabled in America is tinged with a Lynchian aesthetic. liminal, absurd, terrifying, wonderful, isolating, bizarre. I spend much of my life waiting — for transportation, for doctor’s appointments, for phone calls back, for changes in my health status, for the other shoe to drop. it is good to be witnessed in this often strange and lonely truth.
