Match Report & Highlights
+1
The champions looked in danger of suffering another disappointing result following their 3–0 defeat to Brighton before the international break. However, Mikel Arteta’s substitutions helped transform the match and sparked a spirited comeback. Leeds took a deserved lead when Gabriel Gudmundsson delivered a dangerous cross from the left. Justin arrived at the far post and finished to put the visitors ahead. Noni Madueke crossed from the left, Ben White headed the ball back across goal, and Calafiori finished from close range. James Trafford was unable to keep the effort out, and Arsenal were level. Just minutes after coming off the bench, Guimarães completed the turnaround. Declan Rice flicked the ball into his path with an intelligent backheel, and the Brazilian midfielder fired a low shot into the bottom corner. by @doseofarsenal

Brighton & Hove Albion produced an impressive performance at the Amex to defeat reigning Premier League champions Arsenal 3–0 on 19 September 2026. The result was particularly striking given Arsenal had won their opening four league matches and had conceded only once before this game.

Brighton started aggressively, pressing Arsenal high and creating early problems for the visitors’ defence. That pressure eventually paid off when Pascal Groß opened the scoring. Brighton continued to threaten and Charalampos Kostoulas added a second before half-time, giving the home side a commanding advantage.

Arsenal attempted to respond after the break, but Brighton remained dangerous and continued to exploit spaces in the Arsenal defence. Chema Andrés then made it 3–0 in the 57th minute, heading home from a Groß corner on his first Premier League start.

Despite Arsenal having periods of possession, Brighton looked the more dangerous and energetic side. The Seagulls repeatedly threatened on the counter-attack and could have scored even more, with Arsenal struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. The Guardian’s live report noted that the final scoreline arguably flattered Arsenal. by @doseofarsenal

Arsenal started brilliantly. 16-year-old Max Dowman opened the scoring in the 7th minute with an impressive individual finish, before Noni Madueke doubled the advantage nine minutes later. Arsenal went into half-time 2–0 ahead.

Ipswich refused to collapse. Anis Mehmeti pulled one back in the 62nd minute, giving the home supporters something to celebrate. Then, deep into stoppage time, former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom scored against his old club to make it 4–2.

Despite Ipswich’s late fightback, Arsenal had done enough and comfortably secured their place in the next round. by @doseofarsenal

Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 2–0 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland produced a spirited and physical performance, frustrating Mikel Arteta’s side for long periods and creating several dangerous moments of their own.
The first half was closely contested. Arsenal struggled to find their usual rhythm, while Sunderland’s organisation and intensity made life difficult for the visitors. Kai Havertz went close, while Saka also had an opportunity, but neither side could find the breakthrough. Arsenal made two changes at half-time, bringing on Bruno Guimarães and Jurriën Timber. Guimarães immediately found himself at the centre of the Sunderland supporters’ attention because of his Newcastle connections. The decisive moment arrived in the 56th minute. Sunderland were awarded a penalty after a clash involving Brian Brobbey and Ezri Konsa, giving Enzo Le Fée the chance to put the hosts ahead. But David Raya produced a magnificent save, diving to his left and tipping Le Fée’s penalty onto the post. And Arsenal punished Sunderland almost immediately. Just two minutes later, Guimarães collected the ball on the edge of the area and produced a superb curling finish beyond Robin Roefs. The Brazilian wheeled away in celebration, silencing the home crowd and giving Arsenal a 1–0 lead. As the clock moved into stoppage time, Sunderland’s hopes finally disappeared. Reinildo brought down Saka inside the penalty area after already being booked. The defender received a second yellow card and was sent off. Saka stepped up from 12 yards and calmly converted the penalty, with Roefs getting a touch but unable to keep it out. by @doseofarsenal
