Watch till the end for my weight reveal. 😬

I ate my way through boat noodles, omakase, tom kai gai and drinking Thai milk tea like it was free flow.

The thing about leisure travel is I don't really look at what I eat, and yes, I paid it off with gaining that extra mass.

But will I do it again?
Well, I absolutely would. 😬

In Part 1, I wrote about the weight of saying "yes" and how it broke my system, my body, my energy.

This is Part 2.
What I'm doing about it.

I was saying "yes" to work, to favours, to obligations. But I was saying "no" to the people I actually love.

My partner got the leftovers –
the tired, drained version of me.

Was he furious? Not really.
Was he disappointed? Maybe.

But I'm glad he sounded that part of me out. Giving me that signal that I probably should do something about it.

Not being present.
Not being able to spend quality time with the being I love.

It bothered me more than I admitted.

So I sat down and looked at my week.
Really looked at it.
And I asked myself: "What actually matters here?"

It was a struggle.
I'm so used to working = earnings.

That's how my hours are converted.
I'm a service provider who earns by the hour.

So it felt difficult not to commit my evenings to work. I wanted to earn more.

Blocking out evenings for presence, for dinner together, for being there not just physically, but mentally was hard.

I had to let go of some evening commitments.
Some paid work.
Some social obligations.
Some "opportunities."

But I realised: I wasn't losing anything.
I was choosing.

I thought rebuilding my system was about productivity, sleep, and boundaries.

But I forgot the most important part: the people who make the rest of it worthwhile.

I'm still figuring it out.
But I've learned that rebuilding isn't just about fixing how you work, it's about fixing who you're present for.

咸宁七 + aerial hoop + 9 hours of conference work

I flew to HK thinking a change of scenery would change how I felt. Spoiler: it didn't.

But that one hour of aerial hoop? The 10 minutes sipping 咸宁七 alone? Those were my tiny rebellions.

Work trips don't fix burnout. But reminding yourself that you exist outside of work? That helps.

Have you ever felt more drained on a trip than at home? Tell me I'm not alone. 🇭🇰👇 taken in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong 尖沙咀 by @doseofzee

I'm not posting this because I've figured it out. I'm posting this because I'm sitting right in the middle of it. And maybe you are too.

Another project. Another favour. Another "it'll take just 5 minutes." I thought I was being reliable. Turned out I was just running on empty, pretending the tank was full.

The heavy ones aren't always the big life decisions. Sometimes it's the 10 small "yes" in a day that pile up until you can't move. I got sick almost every other month. That's when I knew this wasn't tiredness, it was my system crashing.

I had to say that out loud to someone I love. The silence after that "Wait... what?" was the hardest part. But I held my ground. Because showing up as a hollow version of myself wasn't love, it was just an obligation to empty.

This one cuts deep. Growing up in an Asian household, saying "no" to family feels forbidden.

But I'm learning that showing up exhausted and resentful isn't being filial. It's just showing up empty. I still don't know where the line is...

but I'm looking for it.

Ready means knowing what I actually have to give and what I don't.

Ready means protecting the parts of me that need rest, so I can show up fully when it really matters.

This isn't the end. It's just the beginning of untangling.

If you're in the mess with me, drop a ❤️

I know it's gonna be nasty, imperfect, and chaotic.
This process of discovering myself all over again.

To rebuild, I must first unlearn.

Better tools.
Better habits.
Better discipline.
0
I tried them all.
But nothing worked.

Because the problem wasn't my tools.
It was my beliefs.

The quiet scripts.
The old programming.
The guilt I never questioned.

So I'm pausing the rebuilding.

First, I'm unearthing.
Week by week, I'm naming them.

Asking: Do you still serve me? Or is it time to let you go?

Because before I can build something new
I need to clear the ground.

---
This is where it begins. Messy parts and all.
Follow along. I'd love to have you here. 🕯️

If you've ever felt guilty about not sharing the same hobbies as your partner, this is for you.

The problem isn't that you're "too different."
It's not that you don't love each other enough.

It's that we've been sold a lie that couples should do everything together.

---
SM loves BJJ and boxing. The sweat, the contact, the competition.

I love Pilates and aerial hoops. The control, the precision, the slow burn.

For the longest time, I thought this was a problem.

Shouldn't we have more overlap? Shouldn't we be each other's workout buddies?

Then I realised something.

---
The goal of a relationship isn't to eliminate differences.
It's to figure out how many of them you can accept.
---

Here's what I've learned:
① Not every activity is meant to be shared.

Some things are yours. Some are theirs.
And that's not distance → that's space.

SM doesn't need to understand why I spend an hour trying to hook my knee on a metal hoop.

I don't need to understand why he enjoys getting kicked (okay, sparring).

We just need to respect that these things light us up differently.

② Forcing shared activities can backfire.

I could try BJJ. He could try aerial hoop.
We'd probably laugh, it'd be cute, and we'd never go back.

Because the joy of these activities isn't just the activity itself →
- the community,
- the progress,
- the personal challenge.

When you force it, you lose the authenticity.
And sometimes, you end up resenting each other for it.

③ The question isn't "do we do everything together?"

The question is:
"Can I accept that you're different from me?"

Not tolerate. Accept.

Because acceptance doesn't mean you have to like it, join it, or understand it.
It just means you stop making it a problem.

---
So here's what works for us:

We do some things together.
We do most things apart.
And we come home and tell each other about it.

That exchange → the sharing of our separate worlds →
that's the actual connection.

Not the activity.
The story after.

---
So if you and your partner love different things = good.

That means you both have a life outside each other.
And that makes coming back together so much sweeter.

My productivity system broke down.
Work. Days. Energy. Lifestyle. All of it.

The old one lasted me 4 years,
but it no longer fits who I am or how I live now.

Last year, everything shifted: career, relationship, the whole script.

I blame Saturn returns, honestly.

To build something real, you first have to demolish.

And rebuilding?
It usually takes 1–2 years.

But this time, it's going to be a longer process.
Just me, my new home, and a lot more changes coming in the next 2 years.

Here's the plan:
☑️ List what's working + what's not
☑️ List the 5 things that actually matter to me
☑️ Adjust my schedule to protect them

But then again, rebuilding a system comes with a lot of trial and error.

Sometimes our schedule just doesn't allow us to be adventurous with changes.

With that? I’m seeing delays in finalising a system that works for me.

With so many shifts happening in the next 2 years, I pretty much have to think on the go and adjust swiftly.

I don't know how I'll react.
But let's just see.

Game on.

Day 1 — till I rebuild my system.

If you made it to the end of this carousel, thank you.

I don't know if I'll make more of these, but I'll keep updating my process along the way.

Who else is in the middle of rebuilding their system? 👇

When I first started Pilates in my early 20s,
I found it too slow and technical.

I couldn't see how it would benefit me long-term.

If it weren't for a friend who wanted to rebuild her exercise routine, I would never have given Pilates a second chance.

Many times along the way,
I wanted to put it on hold,
because I really didn't know where it was going.

Yet, after many attempts to
bring a friend along to work out,
I finally understood how
conscious movement can make such a big difference.

What's your story behind what got you started?

Ps. I didn't realize the sound was missing... You all just read k? Hahaha by @doseofzee

We want results fast. I get it. But Pilates isn't a 30-day ab challenge or fat-freezing at the salon.

It's consistent work. The rewards last. Here's what happens when you show up 2–3 times a week:

✨ First 2 weeks
More awareness. Less tension. You move with control, not momentum.

✨ 3–4 weeks
Posture shifts. Core wakes up. Sitting, walking, lifting, everything starts to feel easier.

✨ 8–12 weeks
Strength. Mobility. Visible changes. Your body handles load with better alignment and fewer compensations.

And how you move through that matters more than forcing a perfect shape.

Pilates progresses through precision, control, and breath while prioritising spinal health and nervous system regulation.

That's why the strength transfers to everything else you do, and the results actually stick.

If you're here for that, we'll get along just fine.
