As Pride Month comes to an end, let’s talk about intersectionality. I understand that we can't be equally passionate about everything, no one has the emotional bandwidth for that. However, you can't care about women's rights without caring about black women, you can't care about black lives without caring about black LGBTQ+ lives, and you definitely can't care about the Lesbian, Gay and Bi-Sexual community without caring about colored Trans, Queer and Intersexual lives. Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera (black and hispanic trans women, respectively, two of the fighters at the Stonewall Uprising, part of the organizers of the first parade, loudest voices at the initial protests for gay rights, women who sold their bodies to fund STAR so gay, queer and trans teens of all races kicked out by their families wouldn't have to turn to sex work to survive) are one of the reasons we have Pride Parades, Pride Month and as at this month, are the part of the reason no one can be fired for being gay or trans in America. How then, does it make sense that if they were alive today they would still be discriminated against by us all and even the gay community whose rights they fought for? Black and Brown Trans, Queer and Intersexual people don’t enjoy a quarter of the freedoms we do. They continue to suffer violence and their murders are filed as cold cases before their bodies hit the floor. This is not right. Haul from the Texas Farmer’s Market today. If you can afford to shop small, please don’t forget our small farmers. Big corporations are not here for us and what better way to cut them out of the equation than by supporting one another. Side-note, celebrities get paid for your following so except if they speak truth to your life, genuinely make you happy or crack you up, consider unfollowing them and following small brands/personalities that tickle your soul instead. This was such a fun day! The pyramids are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site of an ancient city that predates the Aztecs. The site is only an hour away from Mexico City and cost only $12 (USD) to get in. However, I did a $250 tour that ran from 5:30am - 3pm and included round trip from my residence, a sunrise hot air balloon ride past the pyramids, champagne, breakfast, tour of the site, tequila tasting and so much more. You can also get tours without the balloon rides for $50-70. Yes, there was a mass shooting there 2 weeks ago, the week before I went, but it was the first of its kind and security has tightened up so it’s safe. Either way, it’s historic, humbling, beautiful, and absolutely worth a visit.

Tolantongo is a geothermal spring with turquoise waters in Hidalgo, Mexico. The spring is heated up to 37C/98F by volcanic activity that creates a warm river, pools, waterfalls as well as really cool caves and tunnels. For only $230 pesos ($14usd), you can get a day pass that gives you access to the entire area, including hiking trails. I didn’t care much for the pools but absolutely loved the caves, tunnel, and river. 10/10 recommend!

My last 5 weeks in Argentina were spent exploring Buenos Aires some more, bonding with the girlies, eating good food, taking day trips to Tigre and Uruguay, and a short vacay to Iguazú. However, I’m not me without introspection so here we go. Is BA fun? Yes. Is overt racism prevalent outside of tourist areas? Yes. Did Argentina (along with ONLY Israel and the US) vote “No” when, on March 25th, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing the transatlantic slave trade and chattel slavery of Africans as “the gravest crime against humanity?” Yes. Argentina, specifically Buenos Aires, is the perfect escape for people looking to live relatively affordably without melanated folks in their presence… it is beautiful, for city and nature lovers, and again affordable. For $500, I got to see the world’s largest waterfalls system, Iguazú Falls. My flight from Buenos Aires to Iguazú was about $250, round trip airport shuttle $15, round trip bus fare to the waterfalls $15, 2 night stay $100, ticket into the park $30, and food was less than $100. I only booked my hotel the morning of my flight because I wasn’t sure it would be worth it and I’m so glad I pushed through. If you make it to Argentina, you must visit the waterfalls. I walked the lower trails to get the panoramic view, took the train to Devil’s Throat then walked to the top of waterfall, and totally skipped the middle (aka upper) trail. You can do more, including taking a boat to the bottom of the falls or checking out the Brazilian side, but definitely don’t do less. Also, listen to her roar 🥰
