HOW DO YOU KEEP A VISITOR’S ATTENTION?

You give it somewhere to go. Future Trends, the fourth stop at STEP FuturAbility District, surrounds visitors with four suspended screens, video, and soundscape. Data si structured to move through, not read once and forget.
Some trends respond to a smartphone too, unlocking an augmented-reality layer just by framing the icons in the space.

TALK ABOUT SUDAN

Sudan is currently facing the world’s largest displacement crisis. Yet in public discourse, it remains largely absent.
This silence is where “Sudan e Sud Sudan: Geografia di un Vuoto” begins — an installation curated and designed by Dotdotdot for Medici Senza Frontiere at the Internazionale Festival in Ferrara, on view until tonight, October 4, 2026.

The installation traces the chain of events that turns conflict into a humanitarian crisis, bringing attention to a tragedy that risks unfolding without witnesses.

Emptiness is the key to the entire narrative.
Maps, data visualisations and photographs break down the crisis by revealing what is missing: legal protection, healthcare, aid and information. A few essential figures convey the scale of the crisis, while photographs by Nicolò Filippo Rosso, from his Lost Between Borders project, give a face to the people behind the numbers.

The perspective then shifts to show how Medici Senza Frontiere works in the field to “Colmare il Vuoto”, through four actions: intervene, treat, prevent, bear witness.

The first three belong to those working on the ground. The fourth belongs to all of us.

DATA BUGS GOES TO WARSAW

From 2 to 4 October, Data Bugs – AI is a Mirror travels to Warsaw for the Przemiany Festival at the Copernicus Science Centre @centrum.nauki.kopernik.

This year’s edition, “Is AI Thinking for You?”, asks how artificial intelligence shapes the way we perceive and interpret the world. Since 2024, Data Bugs has been contributing to this global discussion, offering insight into how machines work and create bias.

Data Bugs conjures an imaginary universe: a society of insects that reveals itself to visitors, responding to how they move through the space that hosts the installation. Two AI models, trained on two different datasets (one narrow, one built on the natural diversity of over 14,000 species), produce very different results.

Data Bugs neither demonizes nor celebrates AI: it shows that AI is a mirror of the data we feed it, building awareness of the biases that naturally come with it.

A JOURNEY INTO THE HERITAGE OF VAL CAMONICA

Camòn is a journey through the natural and cultural heritage of Val Camonica, connecting four villages and seven thematic stops into one shared narrative of the territory.

The project invites visitors to look beyond the landscape and discover the stories, knowledge and identities that shape it. Each stop becomes an opportunity to engage with a different layer of the local heritage.

Developed through fieldwork and workshops with our Foundation OpenDot @opendotfoundation , Camòn brings new visibility to an already rich heritage, creating a space where the territory can be discovered, experienced and passed on to a new generation.

Camòn is a project by the municipalities of Malegno, Breno, Losine and Cerveno. Co-funded by the PSR – Rural Development Programme 2014–2020. by @dotdotdot_it

A CITY MADE OF WORDS

What if a language could look like a city?
For the MULTI – Multimedia Museum of the Italian Language, Dotdotdot took inspiration from the city as the ultimate social structure: a place where layers, stories, and different voices coexist.

The visual identity translates this idea into a three-dimensional system — reflecting the way cities are experienced, and the layered, multidimensional nature of language itself.
A structure that is defined yet constantly unfinished, planned yet spontaneous. Where the traces of the past meet a language that evolves every day.

VAL CAMONICA, FOUR VILLAGES, ONE STORY

Losine, Cerveno, Malegno, Breno: four villages and a shared story waiting to be rediscovered.
Camòn is a journey in 7 free-standing stops weaving together interactive installations and narrative backdrops, bringing a territory rich in history to a new audience, starting with the youngest.

The project draws on research developed through a series of workshops led by our Foundation OpenDot @opendotfoundation to shape a playful, educational path designed with and for children and young people aged 6 to 13.

More than a visit, it’s an experience that builds on what the territory already holds, giving new life to tradition, history, memory through physical games and digital storytelling.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

Wondrous animals came to life online. And discover how dragons, phoenixes, and griffins come to life, we got the help of an exceptional narrator: the 14th century poet and writer Giovanni Boccaccio.

Welcome to the Multimedia Museum of the Italian language. Learning the history of a language has never been so much fun.

HOW DOES A UNICORN MOVE ITS HORN?

To bring visitors of the Multimedia Museum of the Italian Language an authentic feel for the beasts so present in 14th-century Italian literature, technology comes as a great help.

No need to invent anything: the magic was already there in the period paintings used to illustrate the animals, now gently animated to add an extra layer of fascination to the virtual museum’s already rich history.

YES, YOU CAN PICK UP THOSE BOOKS

When it naturally suggests behaviours, design is at its best. And all you need is a small detail, a hint to let people imagine by themselves what could and should happen in a space.

So when the MUNAF asked us to revamp the furniture of the bookshop, to ensure people were free to look through the volumes that are on show, we came up with an easy, yet extremely communicative solution: the rubber bands on the shelves.

If you do visit this beautiful photography museum and its bookshop near Milan, do not forget to also browse through the digital archive that we designed for them in 2024: a large multimedia wall with a touch surface engaging visitors in an intuitive exploration of thousands digitised images from MUNAF’s 40 photographic fonds. With an immersive sound design for an intimate and emotional experience.

For the third issue of ABOUT:, @dotdotdot_it approaches data as a design material: something to collect, map, question and reframe. Through a visual and critical scan of 90 projects and 15 case studies, the studio’s work as Data Curators reveals the relationships between architectural reuse, environmental balance, biodiversity and quality of life. The result is not a set of definitive answers, but a new lens through which to read what already exists and to imagine more regenerative futures.

The third issue of ABOUT: is available now in print and digital. Find it at selected newsstands and bookstores.

INSIDE THE FOURTH MIRROR

Each mirror explores a distinct chapter of the Terme Berzieri’s life and imagination.

The first traces the extraction and processing of salt and thermal water, all the way to the acqua madre, through illustrations celebrating the role of the Istituto Chimico.

The second revisits the history of spa treatments and products through vintage advertising posters, with a touch of irony.

The third takes us on an animated journey through archival photographs: anecdotes, rituals, and fragments of the daily life of guests and staff.

The fourth mirror transforms Galileo Chini’s stained glass, friezes and decorations into rhythmic, hypnotic animations, amplifying their ornamental power.

A century of stories. Four ways in.

THE MIRROR KNOWS YOU ARE THERE

In the corridor of Terme Berzieri, four interactive mirrors accompany visitors through the space.
The visual concept draws from steam — the iconic element of the thermal experience — used here as a narrative language and a device of transition. In standby, the mirrors show silhouettes blurred by condensation: evanescent presences that seem to move through a parallel corridor, catching the eye with small, quiet gestures.

Step closer. The steam dissolves progressively, revealing the title of a micro-story.
