Join us Thursday October 15th for Dotstories at JustBookish as we dive into Spooky Season and celebrate Spirits, the mystical, and all things supernatural! As we slowly creep towards All Hallows’ Eve and the veil between the living and the dead grows thin, we celebrate the traditions we have adopted during this time and our personal experiences with the supernatural! ✨️ Joining us to share her story as our Storyteller Spotlight is Ghost and Gravestones of Boston’s character, Lily Winters!

Lily Winters was born and raised in Guernsey, England. She married the love of her life, Jonathan, and soon discovered he was cheating on her. After confronting him, he institutionalized her for "hysteria". After Lily's treatment was complete, Jonathan came to retrieve her and in a vengeful rage she lit the room they were in on fire. Unfortunately for her, she didn't check the locks, and she too burned alive with him. Now as her eternal penance, she has been haunting the streets of Boston giving tours with Ghosts and Gravestones of Boston since 2010. Lily is one of the longest running and most popular ghosts, and can be seen on their brochures, trolleys and website terrorizing the unsuspecting. 💀

All are invited to join us as Lily tells her story, and all are welcome to share your own! Visit the link in the post or in our bio to learn more and sign up! No storytelling experience is necessary, and all are welcome to share your story and experience. We look forward to seeing you there!! 👻🎃 by @dotout

We had a great time at last week’s Dotstories as we celebrated Latine Pride! There were so many new faces, and so many exciting and inspirational stories to be told. We were especially moved by our Storyteller Spotlight, Isabelle Ribeiro Antione, as she shared a story of her family titled “Cicatriz”.

Isabelle spoke about her experience of immigration, the beauties and hardships of being a first generation Brazilian-American, and how her culture shaped her and gave her the life she has today. In a beautiful quote, Isabelle stated that “immigration doesn’t always mean abandoning your homeland, it means you bring a piece of it wherever you go, like carrying a flower’s extract in a perfume bottle. The essence of what is extracted is brought along, either pleasing, or disturbing, nevertheless, present”. Her story inspired several other people to share their experiences in their culture, of discrimination, of family values, and the love of their community!

We concluded the night with some enthusiastic On Your Toes storytelling games where we told stories about unicorns, heard tales of some incredibly dramatic ducks, and were faced with acknowledging the fact that the decisions made by Boston drivers are…questionable at best. We are excited to see everyone back for next month’s Dotstories on October 15th as we are joined by Ghosts and Gravestones Boston's own Lily Winters, and dive into stories of Spirits, the mystical, and all things supernatural! We look forward to seeing you there!! by @dotout

Thank you to everyone who showed up to this month’s DotStories! This was such a fun group, and the energy that was brought by everyone was absolutely unmatched. It was an incredible time as we celebrated the important animals in our lives and the people who love them!

Our evening was started off by a touching story from our Storyteller Spotlight, Anna Yorks! Anna spoke about all of the amazing work she’s done for the Animal Rescue League’s Field Services Department over the last 10 years, including saving cats from trees, rescuing injured hawks and bringing them to wildlife rehab facilities, and helping educate the public about how to access low-cost veterinary services in Boston, pet food and supplies pick up locations for those who need it, and the various other services offered by the Animal Rescue League of Boston to help community members in need! Anna also shared an emotional story of people she has helped directly, how she fights to end the stigma of animal surrender and euthanasia, and the bravery of pet owners who ask for help, even when it’s hard.

The night ended with joy as we played some of our favorite storytelling games, including some fantastic storytelling translations from both newcomers and old friends that had us all tearing up with laughter. This tight-knit group was a blast to be with, and we look forward to seeing them and so many other new friends at our next DotStories event on September 17th as we celebrate Latinx Pride with our Storyteller Spotlight, Isabelle Ribeiro Antoine! We’ll see you there!

Join us for DotStories this Thursday August 20th at JustBook-ish as we celebrate our love for animals and the joy that they bring us! We take this time to remember the animals that have played an important role in our lives, share our appreciation of how they make the world better, and tell our stories of how our beloved pets earned their special places in our hearts. We are so excited to be joined this month by our Storyteller Spotlight, Anna Yorks!

Anna (she/her) always knew that she wanted to work with animals, and immediately jumped into animal welfare after graduating college. For the last 10 years Anna has worked in the Field Services Department at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, and recently accepted a position as the Field Operations Manager! Through ARL’s Field Services Department, Anna works every day to achieve her goals to support animals and the people who love them, and keep animals happy and healthy in their homes and habitats!

Anna lives with her husband, Brett, twins Alanna and Avery, three cats Marty, Grilo, and Pep and a very large and very sweet pig named Lilly 🐷 She loves all things Boston, and when she’s not working towards helping those around her, she can probably be found watching a Celtics game 🏀We are eager to hear Anna’s story and about all of the animals and people she has helped through her time in non-profit work!

Do you have a story you want to share? We want to hear it! Visit the link in the post or in our bio to learn more and sign up! No storytelling experience is necessary, and all are welcome to share your story and experience. We look forward to seeing you there!

Join us for DotStories on Thursday July 16th at JustBook-ish as we celebrate Disability Pride Month! Disability Pride Month is dedicated to celebrating the diversity and achievements of people with disabilities, challenging stereotypes, and is devoted to advocating for equality and accessibility. We are thrilled to introduce our Storyteller Spotlight for this session, disability community advocate Mary Ellen Gambon!

Mary Ellen has devoted her life to writing and public service while having multiple physical and neurological disabilities. With a specialty in journalism and political science, Mary Ellen has had a rich professional career in writing for several newspapers, including but not limited to the Bulletin, the Norwood Record, the Daily Transcript, and The Journal & Sun! Her first daily newspaper story was even reported from the White House! She received a Pulliam Fellowship back in 1994, and is currently working on her autobiography.

Mary Ellen was involved in a bus accident in 1986 which left her disabled, and led to complications that almost ended her life in 1995. After being in a medically induced coma of one month, her doctors told her that she would never walk or talk again; with extensive physical, speech, and occupational therapy, Mary Ellen defied the odds and returned to work one month later. She is a devoted community member and disability rights advocate, and focuses on equity for people with disabilities in employment, public housing, and public transportation. We are thrilled to hear her story!!

Do you have a story you want to share? We want to hear it! Visit the link in the post or in our bio to learn more and sign up! No storytelling experience is necessary, and all are welcome to share your story and experience. We look forward to seeing you there!
