This year has happily involved a lot of William Morris. He is someone I really respect, and I think a bit of a kindred spirit. His work and driving force remind me that continuing to create is always worthwhile, that these crafts that are often dismissed are really valuable skills that should continue to be passed down from generation to generation. That continuing to create things slowly in a world that demands efficiency, and constantly encourages us to outsource our brains and skills to computers, is actually an act of rebellion, and an important one at that.

I don’t know about you, but for me September absolutely flew by, and yet I feel like I didn’t get much done. Possibly because I massively over-committed on reading this month so had to spend a lot of my time with a book (no bad thing).

I was absolutely thrilled to finally visit Kelmscott Manor, and it was as wonderful as I’d imagined, more so perhaps. I felt very inspired.

After spending all of summer thinking I should do some painting at home, it took being back at art class for me to actually get them out. Here’s hoping I’ll do it again in October and finish this painting 😅

I hope September was good to you all and that October has lots of great things in store.

Also a girl who needs to get stricter with herself about finishing off projects neatly. I’m going to need to spend at least a day framing them properly.

I don’t know about you but August has felt like it’s lasted forever to me. I admit I haven’t done all that much creative work, although I was super happy to finally finish my cross stitch inspired by Eilean Donan (very appropriate in a month where I got to spend more time in Scotland). The Edinburgh Fringe has always been on my bucket list so it was wonderful to finally experience it, and it was just as wonderful as I’d hoped.

I’ve done quite a lot of exploring new places this month and spending time with friends and family, which is always a huge priority for me. I hope August has been good to you. Here’s to the cosy months ahead (for those of us in the northern hemisphere).

Just a little bit of stitching time. All crafting was done outside of official conference hours, but I did see one attendee crocheting during a talk so perhaps I should be more ambitious next year. What’s something you always travel with? This poor cross stitch comes with me everywhere but often stays in its bag so was happy to make some progress during this trip.

End of month wrap-up. Lots of crafting this month and enjoying the local landscape. I feel like I say it every month but I am so incredibly grateful for the natural beauty all around. And for a few days of cooler weather to do some knitting 😂

End of term check-in. Happy with how progress is going (lots of bits still need work I know) and will be sad to not have Friday art lessons until September, they are so joyful. Hopefully I’ll get my paints out at home some time over the summer. A nice little surprise when I arrived today was a note from one of the children saying how much they like my painting which was very sweet.

Spent a couple of hours learning how to make a paper flower today. Have never done it before but would definitely be keen to try some more. Although I did enjoy that the petals were pre-cut, which obviously they wouldn’t be if I made some at home 😅
