Two things I found strange when I first started hanging out with Pentecostals -

They all prayed out loud and at the same time, and they called the preacher ‘Dad or Father’ I was used to Reverend and Vicar. ‘Pastor’ wasn’t even in my orbit. Don’t blame me, I was born Anglican!

One day, someone mockingly said - ‘They said don’t have spiritual wife or husband but ok to have spiritual father’ So, I went to scriptures. See, trying to argue a point without proper scriptural backing is just like two dogs barking at each other. No one’s the better for it.

‘Father’ in most places in scriptures isn’t just about being the one who contributed the X or Y chromosome. It’s also the one who gets you established; the one who offers nurture, provides guidance, support, and stability.

It’s all over scriptures - Paul and Timothy, Peter and Mark, Jesus and His disciples, Paul and the Galatian church, Elijah and Elisha and so much more.
